I recently came into possession of two of these knives and have done some research on the spyderco company forums but all the post seemed to be from a while back. I am just wondering the rarity and the current market price these are going for? All info is appreciated. Thanks, Richard

They are available now and then, and they're worth whatever a collector is willing to pay any given day (which changes quite a bit).

For a rough estimation, I'd say though that it is worth a little more than an ordinary, maybe pink, Native.

Hi Ricky,

We ship hundreds of them to the Middle East. We do a monthly lottery with the troops there. There are two variations; Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

they are specially made for our troops and are not sold to the general public.

That is very noble of you Sal!

Just another reason to appreciate such an esteemed company.

Thanks for all the responses to my post, you cleared up all the questions I had. Thanks again, Richard

I can't believe nobody has a problem with the selling these knives. If you ask me,it's a travesty that these Native are being sold.Since, these are all given away free via a lottery, ment to be used by the brave men and women serving over there.Talk about taking advantage of Spyderco's generosity. Instead,if a person serving finds they do not want their knife, passed it on to another person who can truly use and admire the knife.

i agree with razorburn. these should be given to soldiers as they were intended. but it is the OP prerogative.

Actually these were purchased on post at the military clothing store. They were not free and I did not know it was a so called "Travesty" for a soldier to try and make some extra cash.

It isn't. I think there was a misunderstanding on the part of some who thought the knives had been given to soldiers. They're your knives. Do what you want w/ them. Thanks for your service.

I appreciate your input and I think your right it was a misunderstanding. But since I already got my answers could I request this thread be closed before it turns into an unnecessary argument. Thanks, Richard.

Hi Ricky,

Your request is no doubt understood by those that come here. I don't think that we''ll need to close the thread.

Also, I might add that there are a few that collect our Tan Natives for their own reasons. Maybe they're ex military or whatever. It's not a bad thing.

I think the complaint is when the Tan Native becomes "just another commodity to make money on".

I fall in the ex-military category.. Ive got an OIF Native, but served in OEF and would like to get my hands on an OEF one.. If anyone has an OEF Native, which Ive never actually seen, I would really, really, really like to have one.. Please shoot me a PM and lets talk.. Thanks..

I know when my buddy ad his crew came back from Bosnia, they wanted NO REMINDER of their time there. They sold everything for pennies, most of it was give away.

just saying that maybe some soldiers are getting rid of things (like knives) that remind them of their time served in a certain region. Cant say i blame them.

Not all of these are given away. Some are sold in the military PXs (think military version of Walmart/Kmart). Many soldiers are not knife people either. I imagine that more than a few have been given to friends or family members by soldiers who, for one reason or another, chose not to keep theirs.

Mine was acquired from a soldier who purchased it in his PX. I paid the price he paid for it. Being ex-military myself, this one holds a place of honor in my collection. And always will.

My thanx to Sal and Spyderco for all they do to support and help out our troops!
