why doesnt spyderco make a tanto other than the lum. I agree the blade has its limitations...i guess thats why....??

Obviously, the only person that knows the answer to that is the owner of Spyderco. It seems pretty obvious to me that he designs knives for practicality and usefulness without bending to the whims of fashion. He continues to make lockbacks because they are strong and reliable mechanisms. He tends to avoid black blades because they scratch and serve no useful function for most people. There are no assisted openers to add unnecessary complexity to the knife. Tanto blades are a fashion thing as well and not Spyderco's style. I think it is quite consistent with the company's design philosophy right along. It is one of the reasons I like Spyderco knives so well myself.

Very well stated! I don't know that I've ever actually considered it from that standpoint. It's a revelation for me. Spyderco just jumped in my esteem. Okay, nevermind me, and my epiphany... Just another one of those Duh! moments when I realize something that I should have noticed a long time ago.

Thanks,
DD

IIRC Sal has said when they have made tantos, they just did not sell to well.

He was puzzled as other companies do quite well with them, thinking perhaps Spyderco buyers just don't care for them.
