Hello- This is my first post to the Blade Forum, I think that I am doing this correctly. If not let me know.

I am a saltwater fly fisherman & mostly fish the surf.

I would like to hear from the forum members about what their preferences are and why in regards to the Spyderco Tasman.

Which edge is preferred serrated or plain?

Thanks - Swoop

I use a tasman salt with a plain edge for ease of sharpening. It's been through harsh weather and stored ina tackle box with bait stuck to it, always cleans up great and performs perfectly. The serrated might be a better cutter for rope but for 90% of tasks the plain edge does just fine.

I say go for PE. I do not personlly care for serrated knives in the first place.

Another vote for the plain edge. Serrated knives have their place and certainly have a dedicated following but having used Spydercos in both styles I prefer the PE for most purposes.

I don't have a Tasman but do own a Salt 1 and have used it extensively in a tropical salt water environment. If there is a downside to these knives I haven't discovered it yet.

I have a Tasman PE and I love it. As for fishing stuff, I'd stay with PE, the amount of times you're going to need an SE are going to be so much fewer than the times you get pissed off sharpening it. A word of advice though: get ready for scratches with H-1.

:)
