So, I want a new EDC blade, I tend to prefer ones on the smaller side since I work in an office and dont want to freak people out.

I have been eyeballing the HEAT and Techno for a while. Anyone have any thoughts or recommendations on other knives that are similar?

Thanks guys.

There are a few different configurations of the Heat now available. I have the titanium/niolox and D2/g10 models. Both had lock stick but broke in quickly. It can fit in my watch pocket and deploy with the wave. They are both excellent but I prefer the G10 one due to it's grip texture. The handle is large for such a small knife. I do not own a Techno at all nor do I have anything similar. However,I do like the look of the new ZT 900. It's a similar size but has a flipper.

You might want to give the ZT0900 a try. It's a beautiful Les George collaboration. Great stubby little knife with snappy action.

Alternatively, you might take a look at the Boker Blackwood Pipsqueak, a different kind of knife, but still short and stout.

Nice, I have looked at both of those. I tend to prefer thumb studs or holes to flippers though. Both flipper and stud or hole is perfect. I carry a small buck vantage pro at the moment. The pipsqueak looks nice but it way too wide. It's not really practical for me.

For some reason the ZT doesnt really float my boat design wise either. I wish they would make a 3" version of the 0566. i would be all over that.

You won't be disappointed with the techno, its an amazing little knife. I don't own a DPX so couldn't help you there.

I have and really like both. My DPX heat is the elmax version. Both handle and cut very similarly when open. The DPx has a more rounded handle with some texturing, but both are pretty secure. Fit and finish on both are first rate. I carry the Techno more often because I prefer opening hole vs thumb stud and because I like the wire clip on the Techno. Can't go wrong with either. Sorry, not much help. Opening mode is main difference, so guide on that if you have a preference.

Here's another thought for you. The Strider PT. They're a bit hard to find, but they are excellent knives. I have one.

The Techno's handle is too short for how thick it is. The DPx HEAT has a longer and contoured handle so it's more comfortable and provides almost a full 4-finger grip for me, better than a ZT350 even.

I have a Dpx Heat elmax version and it doesn't seem to get a really nice edge, maybe it is my problem but i haven't had the same problem with other lionsteel knives.
The bottle opener is right where you would put your thumb when cutting and it isn't very comfortable and nice to see.
On the other hand, it's really well made and you can carry it deep in your pocket.
I haven't a thecno but I have a BM MPR in M390 and this is my favourite little beast, a bit bulky but the m390 is fantastic, and it can stand every works.

I dont have either - but I drool over the Techno - and I am so-so on the Heat, not that that helps you at all :-)

No experience with the Heat but I happen to be carrying my Techno today and am always impressed with it. The knife is much smaller then I expected but it's very stout in hand. I'm a medium-large hand and I find I get a good full grip if I come up onto the spine in front of the spydie hole. Thick blade but very thin behind the edge makes this a surprisingly good slicer which upon first glance it doesn't look like would be. All in all it's a great "little big blade" that performs well and will be very friendly to non knife people.

I owned the heat od green d2 for a week or so. I couldn't get over the disproportionate handle to blade length ratio so I sold it. I like the techno, and the steel is better than what is offered in the heat. I also agree that the wave/bottle opener bothered my thumb . I also am not a fan of RYP.

Thanks for all of the feedback guys. you have all been awesomely helpful. I'm not quite sure just yet but my gut is sort of telling me to go for spyderco....one is that the company has been around forever.

From what I have read about DPX, they seem like a good company and they are Socal based which i like since I live in California.

The bottle opener seems like a cool idea but honestly it seems kind of like a gimmick to me a bit.

Do you know witch one is thicker?

the handles size vs blade also has raised concern for me too. I have handled a techno before and liked it. I havent touched a HEAT though. i do like my knives to be equal proportioned....

I actually just sharpened one for another member over the weekend. Spyderco does a very good job with the grind on the Techno--despite having a slight thicker blade than an SNG (.177 inches for the Techno vs. .165 for the SNG) the Techno has much much better edge geometry. Fit and finish-wise the Techno takes it over Strider without question and CTS-XHP is an excellent steel.

And here it is in comparison to a few other framelocks:

I've owned the Techno, and loved it. It sliced pretty well for its thickness, it looks good, feels good in the hand, isn't too wide for the pocket, and carries nice and deep. I have handled the HEAT, and really like it, but I love all titanium. I will likely end up with a HEAT, and another Techno at some point. I would go for the Techno first, I like the steel on it better.. and all titanium.. yum. Lol.

Awesome, im thinkin of goin with the techno pretty much now.

Anyone know how to anodize the handles blue?

Depends on how much you want to spend to either do it yourself electrically or using a heat source.

I'm open to paying for it since I don't really know much about it. Just not an arm and a leg.
