Hey gentlemen

I am thinking about getting one of the technos. Just looking for some opinions of the knife before I make the purchase. What are your opinions of this spyderco?

They seem to be fairly popular. But the Techno is one of the few knives that I have sold. For me, it was just too thick and stout for its short length. That is a subjective thing. Its a good looking knife in my view, and I like that backspacer, but I could just not get into it. If you want one, you should go for it. Most guys seem to like them, and you can always sell it for 80% of what it cost you. For giggles, maybe read this.

I don't own one, but checked it out at a store that had just received them when they came out. I did not like it personally. It was just too short in the handle department. I think this type of design is not practical at all, but fits the bill in today's fad market. Maybe this odd design will hold its market place, it has for a good while already, but I want a knife that is more practical. Just one guy's opinion.

I already had a Sage, and a PM2 so I was in the market for something different. Also wanted titanium framelock. I love the Techno. The fit and finish are impeccable. I love the stonewashed titanium look. Both on the handles and the blade. The knife is beautiful. I have medium+ hands and the knife fits perfectly for me. Will be adding a lanyard just to add that little extra grip. The knife opens buttery smooth, but once it clicks open, you feel like you have a bigger knife in your hand. It also has a great pocket clip, and feels small in pocket for being a bigger/thicker knife. Ya some people don't like the blade length, but I will only use it around the house and office and know that it will handle any tasks I have. And people think the blade is too thick, but it actually slices better than you might suspect.

Bottom line: If you already have a Spyderco, then you can't go wrong with the Techno. If this would be your first Spydie, maybe get a more classic Spyderco style knife. Total recommendation

It's a mini tank so depends on what your planned uses are for it. Love mine for the watch/coin pocket on jeans.

My current work knife is a Techno. I absolutely love it. I don't have to worry about treating it nicely and it has a good weight to it. I previously used a ZDP-189 Dragonfly but I find the size of the Techno to be better and the blade steel much easier to sharpen. The blade also flicks out like a banshee.

I do find myself wishing the handle was slightly longer but a lanyard could easily fix that if I really found it to be an issue. Additionally, although I tend to prefer the wire clip, I actually wish this one had a modified regular clip because the wire clip just feels downright noodly compared to the rest of the construction.

Also, in reference to powernoodle's link to the Cryo/Techno comparison; I really don't think the Cryo deserves to be mentioned alongside the Techno. I actually own both and, I'm sure it goes without saying, the quality level of the Techno is so beyond the Cryo it's humorous.

i just received one last week. i'm normally a custom folder carrier, but i wanted a good, reliable knife that i could carry every day and not worry about it getting all banged up or the cost if i lost it/or if it was confiscated/stolen. for me, this knife is perfect for utilitarian tasks. i like the blade shape and the full flat grind. perfect for opening boxes and slicing up my fruit. it has a super quick deployment (almost feels like an assisted). it's a tank, but comfortable to hold. yes, it's short in the handle department but i don't mind. i like its OAL being under 6". i work in a city of hipsters and yuppies, so a non-threatening looking knife works well in the casual corp environment. :) for a production knife, this one has GREAT fit and finish. i was actually quite surprised of the quality of materials and craftsmanship for the price point.

I like mine a lot. It is smaller than I usually carry, but it packs quite a bit of blade in a small package that doesn't offend people not used to knives. It cuts well despite the thick blade and it takes hard use a lot better than most small knives with thinner blades.

Fit and finish on mine is perfect. I like it even more after swapping the blue back spacer for an orange one.

I love my techno, it really is a do-everything knife: it won't offend anyone in the pocket or in hand, it can get real work done, and it looks really nice and high end. Mine has perfect F&F, CTS-XHP steel is rapidly becoming one of my favorites, and even though the blade is thick, I haven't noticed it getting in the way of cutting, and I'm talking things like carrots, apples, cardboard, and thick rubber hose, all of which typically don't like thick blades. If you're interested, think of it like this: A Sebenza with better steel on a sturdier blade, deeper clip, thumbhole instead of stud, more friendly to the public, much cheaper, and while it probably isn't made to the same tolerances, I'm willing to bet you couldn't tell the difference side by side. Grab it, and sell it later if you don't love it.

It's very well made but I sold mine because I found it awkward to open and not very comfortable in hand once opened. Also I don't love a short, fat blade.

Agreed.

Well said.

Great knife. Love it. Only complaint I have, is the short handle making it a tad uncomfortable. I have dropped it while deploying because of the short handle. And I do not have huge hands either.

My normal edc is a dragonfly and a manix 2. How does it compare to the dragonfly2?

I found this image in an old post on another forum:

both my Techno and G10 Dragonfly2 fit about the same in my medium sized hands. The Dragonfly is no doubt more ergonomic, as I think it has the outstanding ergonomics. The choil on the Dfly is so comfortable and allows you to choke up, while you can't with the Techno. But the Techno is still comfortable and I recommend it to anyone that is on the fence. It may not be for everyone, but I think it's beautiful.
