Any opinions on Spyderco Temperance (fixed blade) as a camp knife? It seems to be a fixed blade version of the Endura, that’s one of my favorites, sturdier and slightly larger!
Does the tang run through the whole handle?
And what about the sheath?
Thanks

To me, they look like a fb Calypso. The sheath is adequate, the knife is excellent.

Thank you DaveH, useful thread! It answered all my questions and many more, but I couldn’t understand yet if the tang runs through the whole handle or not. Has anybody got the answer?
Thanks.
Bye

It does not. It runs through 1/3 of the handle.

Francesco - I see you're still in search of the perfect fixed blade. I recently acquired an Al Mar SERE Operator. You should give it a look, it's a pretty nice knife.

Ciao.

Fixed blade Temperance is one very thorough knife, really good on camping as well as in the kitchen. Here it is:

However Fred Perrin Bowie is lighter and easier to carry:

It is really hard for me to decide which one I like more, they are very different knives and each has its own advantages and drawbacks (as each knife at least).

Just edited to add:

Hmm, I would rather state that it runs through about 2/3 of handle length at least...
Could someone precise this matter, please?

Thank you for the interesting photos Sergiusz!
I think that both knives would fit my needs.
I hope somebody will answer the question about tang length!

Hi bear. The tang runs into the handle about half way. The tang is notched and the handle is injected onto the tang. We've been making Morans this way for many years. We've never had a problem with handles. It can't come off and is not likely to break.

Sergiusz, those are some great pictures! Have you got a picture of the Temperance from the top side of the knife showing how wide the handle is, how much the blade tapers to the point and maybe the thumb grooves?

I too have been looking really hard at this particular Spyderco, but haven't gotten the chance to handle one. Looks like a very smart design for the outdoors.

As for the partial tang, I own both of the Moran Spydercos and I seriously doubt that adding more tang is going to do anything to increase an already sturdy design, but adding more steel to the handle will definitely add dead weight. For these designs, I kind of like the light concept. SK
