Hello I bought spyderco Tenacious and love overall fit and finish of knife.Have sharpened it to hair splitting edge and used for some light tasks.I have cut some whole chickens and tissue around the bones and it chipped in few places. Did I sharpen at a too low of an angle or smtg .I never had that problem with my carbon steel blades or cold steel aus8 and spyderco vg10 which I have used even for harder tasks. All input appreciated. Is the probl in 8cr13mov steel or heat treatment as some other blades i have sharpened at same angle and used much harder but never had that problem .thx

Could be the angle. I left it as it came, used it for all sorts of tasks including hard nylon, hard plastic and even some prying tin cans, and the blade is still pristine - except for rust. :D But it's a tough little knife in my experience.

Most likely you got the angle too shallow. 8Cr13MoV performs much better with a 40 degree microbevel than it does at 30 degrees. It's pretty good steel, but it just can't quite handle an edge that thin.

I will try to convex it to see what happens...

Don't waste your time, its a FFG blade to begin with convex will not yield any advantage. I agree with using a microbevel.

I would say angle is the major cause. I have used my tenacious heavily and it have had a little problem keeping an edge but not any with chipping. The steel is pretty good for the money. Periodic maintenance is required to keep it rust free but a great knife overall.

i would try a convex edge and see how it does. it might hold up and cut better than a v edge.

Give the convex a try.

Richardj convexed my Salt1 and it has held up very well. I just lightly touch it up on my strop now and then and it takes a hair popping edge every time.
