So I recently got a Spyderco Tenacious BNIB from a deal online and when I got it I heard squeaking coming from it I was like okay maybe needs breaking in and oil so I bought some oil and opened a tons of times but while opening I noticed the detent ball whenever I force the lock all the way down while closing and the detent ball on the lock doesn't run against the end of the blade which makes for no squeaking what do I do? My oil hasn't come yet but I doubt that will help much should I just keep using and hope it will go away with use? Should I disassemble it?

That's great :/ it least I got it at a good price doe s the manix 2 do this also?
not that i'm aware of. im sure given some time and oil the sound will dull down, I wouldint let it worry you to much becuase it is still a great knife.

I really do dislike like the sound let's hope it goes away but the thing is it's pretty hard to also open maybe oil will help with that, maybe loosening up the bolt would but it's only hand tight idk

if it's new it shouldn't need oil, if its too tight loosen the pivot a little bit. I think the quirk of these is the little squeak noise they make, and there's not a lot that i'm aware that will make it go away. you could try cleaning it and oiling it and it may make it better, but it shouldn't need it being a new knife.

I took the knife apart and it was pretty dry it wasn't exactly bnib box more like a guy bought it flipped it couple times and didn't like it and I bought it from him but it's looks like it's in branded new condition no scratches no ding no nothing and I've heard that the squeaking is normal ordered some go-juice lubricant and will take apart again and oil everything thanks for the help tho

Ive had several Tenacious and dozens of Spydercos and I've never heard a squeak sound.
Send it to spyderco. Either they'll fix it or tell you its a fake.

Honestly I read multiple treads with poeple saying they had the same problem with squeaking while others didnt lots said it went away after some time not sure , whole knife seems legit same washers and insides but didn't buy from Spyderco not sure if I can send it to them

Spydercos warranty doesn't matter where you bought it.

Spyderco has MAP pricing, so not many "deals", which is why I mentioned a possible fake?

Gotcha. Yeah let Spyderco look at it, I'm sure they can work it out.

is it possible one of the washers has a burr on it? That may explain a weird noise.
I'm pretty sure the squeaky noise was coming from the detent ball touch the metal becuase whenever I forced the liner lock all the way down and held it there and moved the blade no squeaking sound whatsoever

My Tenacious is over 8 years old and it still squeaks sometimes.
I’ve heard others with the same deal.

If it squeaks it is very likely a genuine Spyderco.

Thanks for the reassurance I'm gonna put some go-juice lubricant oil on it and see how it does and if it still is not so good I'll send in to Spyderco and see what they say.
