Anyone have a Spyderco Tenacious? They are really reasonably priced, what are your opinions on this knife?

What kind of steel is the blade made of? Is that steel any good for edge retention?

Thanks.

I have the Spyderco Persistence, a smaller version of the Tenacious.

Both are made of 8cr13MoV steel, very close to AUS8 in terms of performance and rust-resistance. This steel does hold an edge for a decent period of time, depending on use. It will need resharpening the more you use it and the edge will wear down faster than it would on VG-10.

Hope that helps.

I have a Tenacious, great knife at any price really. One of the best deals out there I would say, and made out of quality materials. You won't be disappointed.

I used and abused a Tenancious for awhile last year. Great knife for the price. Easy to sharpen, does not stay sharp as long as some other steels. If I grip it wrong I make contact with the lock and partially unlock it, not a big deal once you realize it.

I just got one, been using it quite a bit, loving it, minus the clip, which I removed, but I do that to all folders with a handle wider or thicker than Endura. Liking it more and more, although it's pretty big for EDC.

Here's a pic, because I like posting pics. :)

Thanks for the input guys. I should get it on 1 September, can't wait either. I will post a pic or two when i get it...thanks again.

Assuming you are right handed, they're excellent knives for the money. If you're someone who regularly loses, or abuses, a knife, they're probably the best Spyderco for you. If not, one will last you a good long time. The steel is 8Cr13Mov, which is suppose to be roughly equivalent to 440C, but many say outperforms it. Hefty steel liners, nicely finished. G-10 slabs which, while probably not as strong as Japanese or American G-10 is more than strong enough. Overall build quality is very good.

Having had a combination blade Tenacious for the past several months I can say from experience that it is a excellent knife & has replaced a benchmade for EDC. Note I did not say it is an excellent knife for the money; it is an unbelievable knife for the money!
In our enthusiasm we sometimes fail to mention the supurb design, perfect size and solid lockup. It is my favorite Spyderco design.
What needs to happen now is for us Tenacious aficionados to start lobbying for a sprint run or step up version with S30V steel or whatever upgrade is feasable @ the factory.
Put me down for two of these!

That sounds like a great little knife. I can't wait to get it...which should be tomorrow. I will write up a small review with some pics when I get it.

Thanks for all the responces and reviews on this knife guys.

I'm excited for you :D The tenacious is a great knife with excellent slicing abilities with it's FFG (full flat grind). The four way pocket carry is great too and the overall blade shape is perfect for just about everything.

With it's wonderful price tag, it's something that you won't be afraid to put to use. Use it, don't abuse it, and be sure to sharpen it every once in a while :)

I agree 51%
The other 49% just loves this knife....As Is.

I mean, I'm getting wooden scales made for mine now.

I really wouldn't bother with that if it was gonna sit in a drawer.

Bring on it's BIG BRO I say

The Tenacious is probably the best "bang for you buck" out on the market right now. I have one and the blade is awesome, 8CR13MoV is a good steel. The blade is full flat ground, very sharp, great belly, great tip, just an awesome knife, GET IT!!!
