Spyderco Tenacious stop pin replacement part

Hi all,

I recently purchased my first Spyderco, a Tenacious. I picked it up at Walmart for $42. When I opened it, the action was a little gritty so I decided to open it up, wipe it down well and oil it with some CLP. Upon disassembling it, the stop pin fell into a wormhole and disappeared. After a few hours of searching I wasn't able to find it.

I've scoured the internet looking for a replacement part but I haven't been able to find one. When I called Spyderco I was told that I would have to send it in along with $25 to be repaired. It seems ridiculous to send the knife for repair when they could easily just sell me the part. This has left a bad taste in my mouth for Spyderco customer service.

Is there anyone here that has a spare stop pin they would be willing to sell me, or maybe a tenacious/ambitious/persistence that's only good for parts (I'm just assuming they all use the same stop pin)? I would really appreciate any help, otherwise this knife is probably destined for the parts bin itself.

If the stop pin they send you doesn't fit exactly right it could cause unusual wear on the washers, and you can end up with centering issues, blade play, and lock problems. They will be expected to cover it under warranty later on, so the fee is to verify everything is sized properly and done right. It's not their fault that your stop pin rolled away.

I would keep looking for your stop pin, they like to bounce and disappear into small cracks, so a strong magnet might help. If you still can't find it you'll probably just have to pony up and buy a new one or pay to get it fixed.

It would be a shame to dismiss a great knife for a little bit of roughness, it would probably smooth out after some opening/closing.

This is exactly why for the longest time spyderco did not warranty knives taken apart. I'm glad they have changed their policy to this and I do not fault them for not selling parts (other than clips).

I realize that was probably not what you wanted to hear but don't take offense. Hopefully you can find one somewhere. I would keep looking for it wherever it was dropped.

You might be able to get a used Tenacious for around $25 on eBay or one might pop up on the exchange.

Unfortunately, many knife companies have similar policies, not just Spyderco. Try getting an omega spring from Benchmade.

Hi Daltron,

Welcome to our forum. Sorry for your disappointment.

It always puzzles me that people think they can take a new knife apart with no experience, lose parts or don't get it back together properly, and somehow it's
Spyderco's customer service that's foul?

These are not leggos.
