I realize that this thread had probably been done before and appologize if it has but i was just wondering out of personal curiosity, which of these cheeper folders does everyone like better and why?

Those are entirely differently designed knives. Personally I like my knives to be good cutters. Therefore my choise i simple: Tenacious.

I like them both but like the tenacious more. With the Trance on tip up carry, the thumb studs always catch on my pocket and wave itself open, with tip down the flipper gets pushed out from the seam of my pocket.

I used the Tena for 1.5 half year. its better in every aspect than the boker.

+better comfort
+better steel (8cr13MoV :easy to sharpen, razor sharpness cause fine structure, and holds a good edge)
+better geometry
+better slicer

+1 for the spyderco in that price range

perhaps the lock is weaker than the fam lock on the boker, Mine was perfect with a rock colid lock up. so i think its not an issue

I don't have the Tenacious (yet) but I have 2 of the Trance... I think the Trance is a great knife for what it's worth but judging from the pics of the Tenacious, the materials it uses and the edge geometry I'd have to agree that the Tenacious seems to be the better EDC knife and at it's price point (for the materials you get) the better valued one too.

The one thing I do not like about the Trance is that the flipper do not work very well; on my knives at least. I requires a fair amount of wrist flick do deploy and lock open. Adjusting the pivot was useless as it caused the blade to be off centered and rub against the frame.

The 2 knives are very different as the above poster mentioned. The Tenacious looks a fair bit larger than the Trance if that is an important consideration for you. I'd suggest you get the Tenacious but just because I'm getting one too. One more knife won't hurt... Always room for one more.

Buy one, save your pennies and then buy the other one. Two of the best examples of "best bang for the buck" out there. Then get a Kabar Dozier for <=$20 too. I love them both but there is something about the Trance.

Flip a coin, ya cant go wrong either way.

I have both and all things considered I prefer the Tenacious, but on the other hand the sheer flatness and compactness of the Trance makes for very comfy unobtrusive carrying. Both are really nice in my opinion. A local custom knifemaker made a yellow G10 scale for my Trance, and he even replicated exactly the same grooves in the handle. It looks quite friendly now.

So do you actually have any experience with the Trance? Cause you only mention the Tenacious here.

I have had both. The Trance is flat and light and has a flipper for fast opening. The Tenacious is heavier duty knife with a more ergonomic handle.

I would probably prefer the Tenacious, but the Trance ain't bad.

I love my drop point Trance. Great cutter, good steel, a solidly comfortable handle and lock, and great price. The Tenacious wasn't comfortable to me. You need to handle both and see what feels better in-hand to you. After that it's about the steel, lock, etc...

I have both. The flipper on the Trance was useless to me, I've had a number of knives with flippers, the Trance was the only one I couldn't get to flip the blade open unless I loosended the pivot screw more than I was comfortable with. I ended up grinding the flipper nub off since it was worthless to me.

The Tenacious is noticeably larger, thicker, and heavier, with a larger blade, I tend to carry it when I know there is a good chance I'm going to need a larger knife. It doesn't disappear in the pocket the way the Boker does though.

I still carry and use each of them now and again, just for different purposes. IMO they aren't really comparable knives except for the price. The Tenacious seems to hold an edge better, but the Trance is very easy to put a good edge on.
