Hey guys,

Well, the title sums up my thread pretty much.. The Black Tenacious is 56.45$ before taxes, so around 65$ with taxes in my area (QC, Canada).

Thanks for the input, KP.

the whole deal with the tenacious is the value for the money. if you pay $30-$35 it's a great knife. if you have to pay more like $40 or more it becomes a good/decent knife for the price but considering what else you could buy for that money the options expand. i would say it is not worth the $65 you would have to pay. here i could buy an endura/delica for that money and maybe even find a used para 2 for that cost.

I agree with TheFlipper9. Black blade or not, it's still 8Cr13Mov, and that steel, IMO, once it exceeds 50 bucks, is.....well, not worth it. For me, I think it's better to pay a little more for a design with a better steel. I paid 40, I think, for my Persistence in satin, and that's ok with me. I would not have paid Much more for it.

Not to an American. However, every Spyderco, and most other knives from US companies, are going to cost more in Canada because of the various taxes and fees that get tacked onto them by your government. If the place you're shopping is charging $56 for a Tenacious, they're probably charging about $90 for a Delica, and the tax you pay on top of that will probably be commensurately higher too. So, it's really a question of what could you get locally for $65 that would be a better value than the Tenacious. My guess is, not a heck of a lot.

Apparently, the para2 is "very rare" here, and only one of the 2 Spyderco's dealer has it and it's around 155$ before taxes, so around 178$ with taxes :(

I checked with the other Spyderco dealers from the dealer locator on Spyderco's website, and there were apparently only 2 dealers, one of them did not have it, and the other dealer is the one at 56$.

Can you order it from an American website? Knifeworks has them for $35, I think BladeHQ is right around there as well. Even with shipping it should be cheaper than $65, or spend over $100 and get free shipping(not sure if that includes Canada).

On BladeHQ its ~44$ for the knife (and that's USD) and there's a 16$ shipping flat rate, so I'll probably end up with more than 65$. Plus I think it's hard to import knives so there may be so extra fees :/

It's not difficult to import knives at all, you likely will not even be charged tax on packages with values below 100 dollars, but our current exchange rate often negates any price advantages. Your best bet if you want a deal is to watch the exchange forum or better yet put up a WTB ad for one.

I forgot to add impulse as a motivator to pay extra. I have done this before. I'll add in, tax, shipping, the wait time and availability and sometimes that would motivate me to pay a little extra for a knife right then instead of waiting. I did that with my PM2. It was right there in my hand for 135, when I could have paid 108 online, plus shipping and I would have only saved maybe 17 or so dollars then had to wait for it for 10 days. So, Yes, if you apply that logic to your 56 dollar tenacious then I think you'd also be justified paying a bit more. If you have a short wait, all the more better. :D

Hey Kappa,

I feel your pain (in the wallet)! I've been lucky to find many great deals on LNIB spydies and great users on ebay and kijiji and also, right here on Bladeforums. There are several excellent mail order Cdn stores e.g Warriors and Wonders, SRKnives, Bushcraft etc. although there are shipping charges to pay. Keep your eyes open and be ready to act on a good deal on this forum from Cdn sellers. I don't blame US sellers for not wanting to ship outside of the country. There are many hassles with customs etc. when bringing in knives to Čanada. Anyway, good luck in your quest for a Spyderco. Btw, my first Spyderco was a Persistence I bought locally from ebay for $37 CDN. More than it was worth but I just had to have it.

Looks like shipping to Canada starts at $9.95 with GP.
I'll definitely look into this website later on, because right now, I cannot add anything into the cart to get a total.

True, but I'm not really fund of the exchange forum because I'm not really into used knives.

Haha for sure. Honestly, that is somewhat my mindset, although, it does not bother much to order and wait for it. The problem is that there are no places that offers me a significant price advantage, I usually just get a few dollars off, due to the exchange rate and shipping price :(

Hi, Kappa. Saw this "True, but I'm not really fond of the exchange forum because I'm not really into used knives."

I buy and sell a lot of knives, and 95% of them come from the Exchange. AND, I never buy one unless it is advertised as NIB or LNIB. I do gift quite a few folders to deployed soldiers and law enforcement, and would not give one of them a used knife. It's quite common to find NIB knives on the Exchange, and you will normally save at least 30%. I have purchased several that are still in the sealed plastic factory baggie. I'd advise you to take a look at it. I have bought and sold with Canadians before and always a happy result.
