I'll be acquiring one of these soon;
I know "Bob T" is world reknown for
his knive(s). What is the opinion(s)
of you forumite(s) ragarding this
particular manufacturer/maker/model?

AET ;) ( ATE on the Spyderco.com "home" forum ;))

I think you'll find that opinions run the gamut as far as the Starmate is concerned.
Some love it. Some hate it.
But the one thing I think everyone will agree on is the fact that it is very well made with top shelf materials.
It's the design that some don't care for. Some don't like the grip, others don't like the blade shape. Some don't like the fact that it has only one steel liner. Oh well...

Then there are the people like me that love everything about the Starmate. The overall design, the materials, the workmanship, the way it feels in the hand and while it is being used. It cuts extremely well and the 440V holds a great edge. It's lightweight and carries in the pocket very well. It deploys easily and locks up tight as a gnat's ass. I like this folder so much, at one time I owned three of'em. I'm down to two now and they will always be with me. A great knife IMO. No joke.

It’s very well made knife, I would dare to say it’s very “pedigree” one.
If you can get one – do it, it is discontinued and you more than likely could trade it if you wouldn’t like it.

Handled it once (jjcoolay's CE starmate) I love that baby.
I like the blade shape, it's very similar to the "modified" spearpoint on the CRKT M18 and the Spyderco Vesuvius, and I like the handle. The liner "thunks" into place, very secure when I checked it out.
I'd like to find a PE for myself ;)

I own a pre prod.#661. I am the second owner of this fine knife. I noticed that the pre prod. versions are just slightly different than the reg. prod. versions. Mostly has to do with the way the blades are marked. Mine has Terzuola's signature Aztec god heavily etched on the blade on one side and then on the other the steel and knife name. It is very well done.

It is a very sold and robust knife with a lock up that other knives would be jealous of as far as liner locks go. Except for my S2K. It is on a par with that. The blade on the pre prod. models are just bit a narrower I believe than the prod. models. At least comparing the one I have to a prod. model. I am not talking alot here either.
The 440V takes a good edge but a bit different I have found than other steel's. It doesn't have to be hair poppin sharp to make it work. It just seems to keep on cutting no matter what. The only thing I have a slight problem with is the carry of the knife in the pocket. The hump on top of the spyder hole just is bit to much of a bulge for me. When it is in my pocket it is kind of difficult to put my other hand there comfortably. No big deal though. The knife for a singal liner locks up dead nuts as stated and has the self adjusting pivot that I have yet to tighten. Hope you like it as it is one fine knife. Although I might be willing to trade my for a CQC7A plain edge. Keep'em sharp

Starmate is a fine knife. With Terzuola's design and Spyderco quality, it is indeed a formidable combination.

I have one and I like it.

An old post here, from Teruzula I believe, indicated that the knife was designed to be both opened with the hole in a normal manner, or opened quickly with the Spyder drop (i.e. pull out with thumbhole, flick down, handle opens into the palm.)

It's a great knife. Feels great in the hand. If you remove the clip, it's pretty slim. Packs a lot of knife into a thin package.

I think we may still have one in our display case though I'm not sure which blade it has. Give Danny a call to make sure. 888-564-8377

DC Williams (aka Suds)

I just have to say that it's BIG! Not as big as a Camillus Cuda Maxx, but it's got a lot of blade! Bigger than a SOCOM by a little bit.
