This one arrived this afternoon and I'm not real sure what I'll be doing on it. I know what I'd like to do is a frame lock conversion but we'll be discussing that. The owner has asked that it be freshened up. It needs sharpened. The lock has over travel to beat all, and there is vertical blade play and a lot because of it. Also, the lock is so thin on this model that it nearly fits in the space between the body of the folder and the blade where the washer fits so its been deemed unsafe to carry by the owner and is pretty much looking at retirement if I can't do something to breath new life into it.

One statement by the owner stands out to me with this one and its regarding ditching the whole set up (speaking of the aluminum body and liner of the folder) and starting over with something lighter. This would be challenging I think. It only weighs 3.4 ounces now and my fear is that if I converted it to a frame lock with one side G10 or G11 that it would certainly be at least that weight or more by the time I was done with it.

My other thoughts are this.

I could probably adjust this lock to contact sooner and just try to renew it back to a little more life as is and send it home. Its a nice blade, good steel, has plenty of potential but what to do?
What do you guys think? Worth a rebuild or not? I'm thinking if I put a .090 thick lock side on it for a frame lock of titanium and a G10 side by itself it may actually lose a little weight or at the least weigh in close to the same but be far more reliable for the owner.

I believe I could convert this one to a usable frame lock in new clothes without really modifying the folder permanently. What that means is that it could be put back together in the factory set up. Why anyone would is beyond me but if it has any collectible value for the future even though its used at least that could maybe play into things. Just a thought.

From the two options you listed I think it makes more sense to convert it into a framelock because that liner looks pretty much done.

But it looks like it might be possible to just put in a new liner? Maybe one that's a tad thicker and stronger to get this nice knife back in working order.

Well Marco decided to pass on letting me work on this one after all. Looks like it will be going home untouched. Nice blade but maybe I'll see again later to salvage it. If not thats fine. I will mail it today Marco.

No problem, Steve. Thanks again for all the input. Depending on what the wallet looks like after the holidays, you may indeed be seeing it again.
