Now only because of that this knife is high on my top 5 must buy list. N690 is by far my favorite stainless steel for a folder only after ELMAX, it it miles ahead of VG-10 or S30V in my opinion (toughness, easy of sharpening, edge retention). I hope Spyderco starts offering more blades with this fine European steel.

Cheers!

I really like there n680. I find it to hold an edge as long as s30 and almost have the corrosive resistance as h1. It also is very aggressive

N690 is above N680Co, its Bohler-Uddeholm’s best non-powder stainless steel. And I do agree about its extreme corrosion resistance, this steel is very impressive.

Ide be careful about saying best. Some people rd here get very sensitive.yes n680 is very corrosive resistant , more so then n690

I'd love to see more of the stuff myself. It's a winner all around. Spyderco is great about shopping around with the steels.

I didn't say that, they did:

BOHLER N690
Our best conventional knife steel. Great value in a corrosion resistant knife steel with excellent edge holding capabilities. Additions of chromium and vanadium enhance edge holding capability, while cobalt and carbon help to retain high hardness. Hardens and tempers to 57-59 HRC and 60-62 HRC with deep freeze. For maximum toughness, harden and temper to 57-59 HRC. For maximum wear resistance, harden and temper to 60-62 HRC.

Man do I love that little knife !I bought a couple just cause there so handy-I've used that steel for a few years in a sig-tac knife I have ,it is great steel,Also love the frn in g10 pattern I wish they would do some of the enduras ,delica's etc... in that g10 pattern they're very light in the pocket.awesome

take a look at this

the two steels are just the same. and one is miles ahead of the other ? those are so close in composition ... if you can feel a difference between them by using a blade you have all my respect. it's like saying you can rate the hrc of two blades by ... i don't know ... pressing them with your fingers.

your opinion is based on a sample of some blades made of VG10 and some blades made of N690Co. the difference you're seeing are geometry and heat treat period.

sorry.

welp looks like ive got to buy a sqeak too. after my yojimbo first haha. i thought that since it was such a small folder that n690Co was just a marginally performing European steel. A step above unnamed stainless you knw? I know a lot of people here dont really view vg-10 as a high performing steel and it doesnt hold an edge like m4 but It has always risen to and performed above what i have ever asked of it. and sometime it borders on abuse.

Im a big steel head and i will jump on a chance to snag a new piece of steel. Plus im a big fan of little knives

Bohler's M390 has about 30% higher edge retention than N690 according to the company's own data. I'm enjoying it in a Mule and hope to see it in a folder one of these days soon. It would be awesome in a Para 2 sprint although I'm very happy with the 20CP P2 sprint.

M390 costs 3X plus more than N690, and it is a powder steel.
