Hi Everyone,

I must say this is really great news. Sal, Joyce and others at Spyderco have decided that Spyderco will participate in passarounds here on BladeForums.

That means that they will be sending out a knife or knives for people to try out just like the other passarounds. I offered to do the sign-ups for them. I'll post more on this particular passaround in a while.

But I wanted to publicly thank Sal and everyone for stepping up and really supporting the members of bladeforums. There has been some details to work through but I think this is going to be great!

:D

Thank you Sal, Joyce, Olive and Peter!

Here's the signup thread:

Very nice!

Kudos to you for starting the ball rolling with your Salsa, I've been following it over the summer. I hope to get in on one in the future.

:D

Sal,

I would like to personally thank you for making the Spyderco Temperance Fixed Blade available for a pass-around. I've tried in the past, but this is the first one I've gotten in on (Thanks to Dave H also). Really looking forward to putting the Temperance through some paces. Thanks again.

Sal, Joyce, Olive and Peter,

Thanks for doing the passaround on BF.

It's great being able to try a knife out befor buying one.
Daves spyderco passaround was the first spyderco I have ever had a chance to use and it was great seeing first hand what sypderco was all about.

Spyderco = very well built!

I now own two of my own spyderco's. The Ayoob plain edge and a Navigator plain edge in VG-10 and I'm shopping for my next one.

Thanks again,

pahl

Sal, Thanks for the pass around knife. What a great idea Dave came up with. R&D from actual end users.

Would you also consider proto-types?:D

This should be a lot of fun! Thanks, Sal for doing this for us and thank you too Dave!;)

Muchos Gracias Mr. Glessar et al! (how's that for mangling 3 languages at once!) What a class act to offer up a product to the BFC masses for a hands on trial.

Thank you, thankyouverymuch...

Brandon

Thank you Sal and everyone else involved in this. I can't wait to get my hands on this one. :)

this is excellent news, i hope other companies will follow suit. can't wait to get in on the next passaround

Thanks to Sal and Joyce and everyone else involved that help get this going (Dave, when it's going to go to Canada?;))
The Temperence is a matter of intrigue to me. I don't really understand how well the blade would work, and the pass around is definately a good idea for everyone to try it for once.
Problem with me is, after being bitten by the spydie bug, I got so used to the sharpeness I just couldn't stand most of the restaurant knives. I think I should get a dress knife from spyderco to handle all those situations ;)

calyth,

No email and no messages makes it hard to reach you, send me email please.

Thanks

DaveH: I'm in Canada and the pass around is for ConUS.... so I couldn't be in...

Now for the review.
Received the knife on Monday 9/22/02.

Blade:
Odd shape for a fixed blade knife, but it worked extremely well on all tasks.
Whittled a couple of sticks and performed very well.
Opened packaged foods, kitchen prep work handled like a good kitchen knife. It was a little "Short" as compared to a normal kitchen knife, but thats not its intent. Size was not a hinderence just used to a longer blade in the kitchen.
I liked the position of the blade with respect to the handle (No gaurd), and the serrations on the back of the blade did aide in control if desired.

Handle:
Very ergonomic, what else can I say it fit my hand well and I have small hands. There still seemed to be alot more room on the handle if you had larger hands. Good texturing, and it seems like it would not be easliy damaged.

Steel:
Came to me sharp with a few minor areas of what appeared to be some "Use areas". Still cut good when in this condtion. I gave it a few light passes on a diamond hone and the blade just took-off, zipping through every thing.

Sheath:
Great job! It held the blade very securly in any configuration. Up/down sideways etc... The Tek-loc is nice, easy on/off the belt. It also was just the right size, no extra material to jab you in the wrong spot all day long.

Closing:

Excellent job Sal & Co. you have a winner in this knife!!! Will be my next fixed blade purchase. Unless you care to "Donate" one of these my way (Hint, Hint)

I've been with Spyders since the early 80's (flat handled Police and Hunter) this is the first fixed blade I've tried and I am impressed!

Thanks again to Dave & Sal for this opportunity.

Wow,another reason why we support spyderco, they are willing to go that extra mile.

Forgot to add that I vote for teh chinook as a passaround knife or an Ayoob. I wanna try both of em before commiting.
