Spyderco tri-angle sharpmaker

Yes. Watch the video and read the directions it came with. If it's not new then check out Youtube for tutorials.

Watch the DVD, and the only thing other than that is to never let your tip come off of the stone, as it will round it off.

Stand over the unit rather than sitting down (you want to look down a bit).

Keep the stones clean (I use a glass countertop cleaner and scouring pad).

Freeze your wrist and move your shoulder (to help keep a steady angle).

I find a tight pinky finger helps my grip (and my grip is what keeps my blade in contact with the stone).

Rather than alternate strokes, I will do multiple strokes on one stone and then the same number on the other (helps me keep my blade straight multiple times instead of switching back and forth).

Be patient.

Three good voices of experience here. I second all their suggestions and I would add: Learn to use a Sharpie to check your edge angles if you haven't sharpened that particular knife before. Go slow and use light pressure. Let the stones do the work.

THIS Watch the DVD, and pay attention to keeping your wrist locked and keep the angle as consistent as possible. The sharpie will make sure you're truly apexing the edge. But using light pressure and letting the stones do the work will be the BEST piece of advice you'll receive to attain a really sharp edge. The Sharpmaker isn't an Edge Pro or Wicked Edge, but it produces edges that are FAR beyond what you would think possible with such a system.

i watched the video and i have a few blades that wont get sharp. idk its because is very dull or theres some tip for something i was missing!!

Try the sharpie method. If the angles on your blade are asymmetical or significantly greater than 20%, you'll have to make adjustments and be very very patient. The basic stones don't reprofile easily or quickly. Color your edges with a sharpie and start your sharpening. If you're hitting the edge correctly, the wear on the colored portion will show it (or not).

I'm pretty sure that Sal covers it all in the DVD. If the knife is not getting sharp, whip up a nice cup of patience and keep at it. ;)

sure, throw it in the trash and get yourself either a motorized system or a manual system like edgepro or wicked edge.

eccvets - Everyone already knows the profoundly deep relationship you have with the paperwheels, but not everyone uses them, wants to use them, or can use them.
