Has the current standard ceramic Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker (model 204MF) remained pretty much unchanged since its introduction...angle, hone media, etc.) If they're have been any upgrades were they significant? I've got a trade pending for one and it may be an older version. I'm just trying to get up the learning curve...not worried about normal wear on the hones, which I realize could vary a lot. thanks

The original was the 203, I think. It only had one angle, IIRC. It was the 20 deg setting. The additional 15 deg setting was an early upgrade. That may be when it became the 204, but I'm not sure. I'm not aware of any other changes to the SM itself, just that additional angle and the number designation. There are add-on stones available now, both from Spyderco and as after-market products from other suppliers.

If your trade is for a model 204MF, it should be the latest model. Additional stones can be bought by you in whatever configuration you want and they should work.
