I'm normally a very cautious consumer in pretty much everything, and without having to show too much willpower. Also, I've never been a huge spyderco guy. There is certainly nothing wrong with them, but typically I enjoy thicker beefier knives and theirs seem to be more geared to slicing. That being said, I required more self restraint than I've had to show in a long time not to add a spyderco TUFF to my credit card today after seeing for the first time (I know I'm behind, but I'm still catching up in the knife world). I know its rather new, but does anyone have any experiences with them? I've seen videos on youtube of lock failure- is that common (it seems unlikely it is, but its worth asking)? And how is spyderco's customer service? I've never bought from them so I literally know nothing about the company. My leader in the clubhouse for my next knife has been the zt300, but if this knife is 90% as awesome as it appears to my untrained eye we may have a new leader for me. Oh also, its worth noting that I have been ridiculously coveting a strider SMF, but the price is a little high for me and I'm left-handed. So I ask yall- any thoughts good or bad on this knife? And how would you compare it to the classic ZT300?

Also, to Jaiofspam (hopefully I spelled it right), I discovered this beast after seeing you mention it in your signature. Even if I don't end up with one, I've thoroughly enjoyed having my opinion of spyderco changed, so thank you!

Thanks for posting the link, that was the first thing I thought of when I read the original post. xavierdoc did an incredible review there.

The Tuff is a classic Spyderco: look at a picture and it's the ugliest knife around. Pick it up and it looks much better. Use it and it's beautiful.

I believe there was two reported failures so as a result Spyderco halted production. Interestingly enough those two have never made it back for inspection.

What?! Really? I think my eyes may have just momentarily turned red. I full approve of that type of proactice QC, but if you have something fail send it back for the good of everyone.

@9blades & Esav Thanks! I've been looking over that review and it looks pretty beastly. I've never been a fan of the really pointy, for lack of a better word spyderco look, but I really think this is a gorgeous knife. The ergo look nice (though ergo is rarely a breaking point for me), great steel by all accounts, and that wonderful blade shape and thickness. I really hope there isn't a lock issue or at least if I buy one and it comes up spyderco has a fix in order. Literally every time I look at it, I like it more.

It's even better in person.
I prefer it to my ZT 300.
If you think you like it, get it, you won't be disappointed.
And any lock can fail, that's what fixed blades are for.

Also if one has pictures of it sitting next to a zt300 series and or maybe a JYD (my current best point of reference since its resting on my laptop) I would be very grateful!
