Just got this today.(spyderco c94pdbl) slip joint. Nice knife. Fit and finish is good. My Spyderco Byrd is very similar although this one is bigger. Both are slightly off center. One difference is in sharpness. This is the first knife I received that is sharpened to my liking. I have no issue with putting the same edge on my other knives though. $80 as opposed to $20 or so. Edge retention should be much better although I have to see .This one is the cpm s110v. As opposed to 8 cr13 mov. Worth the extra? Wait and see I guess. I tried to post a picture but can't figure it out. Lol. Anyway just my .02. I will update if there are any issues.

I have a UKPK in BD-1N that I intend to gift. I have fondled it a bit, however.
It’s a good little knife with thin, slicey stock.
I recommend it.

If you use your knife a lot and don't like the need to sharpen it periodically, then you should be happy w/S110V blade steel. However, when you do need to sharpen it, unless you have your own belt sharpener (with the proper belts and the skill and knowledge to use them), you will have to send it back to Spyderco (or to a professional in the business) to get it done.

Personally, for a "user," I prefer knives w/softer but still durable steel, like good old AUS-8 or VG-10, which can be easily sharpened w/a pocket stone on the spot. As far as I know, the UK Pen knife only comes w/a CTS-BD1N or S110V blade and the difference in price is about $40. CTS-BD1N is comparable to AUS-8. So, it would not be worth the extra $40 to me to buy the S110V version.

I have dmts as well as a belt sander and paper wheels. I also have chosera stones. But for.stupid hard steel they arent that useful. Havent had to sharpen it yet. Diamond spray on a linen belt should keep the edge going a long while.

I don’t have an issue sharpening s110v without a belt sharpener. But without diamond stones I would be in trouble.
