Spyderco, USA made?

Many are made in Golden, CO. Others come from Japan, Italy, Taiwan, China and a few other places. The Spyderco website has a tab in the "Catalog" section that allows you to sort by country of origin. You should be aware that Spyderco is very picky about quality and monitors their overseas production partners very closely and holds them to very high standards.

Many are made in Golden, CO and Seki City Japan. Others are made elsewhere. I limit myself to the first two mentioned.

Oh I don't know if I would limit myself when it comes to Spyderco. I trust in Sal and Eric that the quality is there no matter where the product originates from. I always like to buy US but with some companies I see their logic. Props to Spyderco from me.

The Taiwan Spydercos are made in Taichung which is just as good as Seki from what I have seen. In fact the fit and finish is better than on some of the models made here. Imo, if you don't buy the ones from Taichung just because they're not made here or in Japan then you're missing out on some of the best models currently offered by Spyderco.

Spyderco is a US based company right here in Golden, Colorado however some of the best Spyderco's I've seen have come out of Taiwan. When it comes to Spyderco it's about the company's integrity and quality control of their product no matter where it's produced. I suggest not limiting yourself based on country alone

Everyone else hit the nail on the head. The Golden CO spydercos are excellent, but without a doubt in my mind, the best knives (fit and finish wise) are currently coming out of Taichung Taiwan. The Taichung maker is allowed to include their city as part of the stamp similar to seki city Japan rather than just "Taiwan" as a reward for putting out a world class product.

Agree on "better," at least in some cases, compared to both Seki and Golden. I want to add that the quality and consistency coming out of Golden has really continually been moving upward in the last year or two (not that they were ever "bad," but they really are continuing to improve).

I'm seeing that also, even within the same product line. The recent Para 2s and Manix 2s are, in my opinion, "tighter" than before. And Native 5 is one well made knife, par to anything from Taiwan or Japan.

Dont believe what people are saying about taiwan. The quality control chose a specific city. They city they chose is like the Seki of taiwan. Its good quality, they are making a LOT of high end folders out of taiwan. Especially some of the new stuff (look at http://www.spydercollector.com/) I love the gayle Bradley air in M4 ya thats right thats made in taiwan. as is the szabo spyderco collab AND THE CTS 204P BRAD SOUTHARD FLIPPER! ya you heard me right. As is the Techno in CTS XHP (im picking that baby up later) its rumoured that the bob terzuola spyderco starmate may be made there. just to do another name drop Ed Schempp Tuff

Also spyderco knives make sure they do good quality for price. Trust me on this. The italian the jap, the american, the taiwanese are all great! the chinese are good budget knives that can hold up well for their price range.

I agree 100%. Of all the different brands of knives that I own, Spyderco knives are consistantly the best made, highest quality knives of the lot. If there are any doubters, then handle a Vallotton Sub-Hilt. I will set the Vallotton against any custom knife made, it is that good. So yes, the quality is there, the value is there and I for one am damn glad that Spyderco is there.

I agree, though the model I've noticed it most with is the Military - not disagreeing with your comments at all, though. Actually, as I type this, I will say that the improvement from the S90V/CF Para2 sprint (I have two samples and my older son (23 YO) has another sample) to the recent orange/blue/brown sprints is very noticeable as well. Good work being done in Golden.

The Golden Spydies have the best overall "feel" to them; as in, they were actually made by humans etc... It's hard to describe really.

The Taichung Spydies I've owned were almost too perfect! For the quality you for the price point of knives from taichung it's really unbelievable.

the taichung operation focuses on grinding, fit, and assembly, since much of their raw materials (blade steels) are imported from the US. the seki operation is the same but they use locally-made steels (you can interpret that as an advantage due to lateral support within the locality.) it's also little wonder why much of spyderco's traditional and affordable lines come from seki. the mainland china operation also enjoys lateral integration with local industries and their products are probably the best buy for your money.

The Gayle Bradley insane in terms of quality. The fit and finish is unbelievable. The action is glass-smooth and the materials are top notch. Carbon Fiber and M4 in a single package for ~130$. The gold class griptilian uses similar materials but is way more expensive. Spyderco can make these insane blades and provide them to the consumer for a fraction of what they would be if manufactured in Golden.

The spyderco bushcraft out of Taiwan has as good or better fit n finish than any custom I have. I love my golden co spydies, but a couple of the Taichung knives have made me say wow!

Dont believe what people are saying about taiwan. .

What are people saying about Taiwan? I read the thread several more times and I am not finding where anyone said anything bad about Taiwan. I think it's against forum rules to bash any country of origin.

for some reason ppl associate china and tiawan quality to be equal. I noticed ur "Many are made in Golden, CO and Seki City Japan. Others are made elsewhere. I limit myself to the first two mentioned." which assumes that those are the top quality. I kind of prefer tiawan over seki. stuff like that is why i spoke up
