I used the search engine but didn't find the answer to my question. My grail knife is the Spyderco Vallatton Auto Conversion by Buth Vallatton but I am confused as to where to by this knife from. I have found it on a couple of websites but I am wondering if I have the ability to purchase it from Spyderco or Butch instead of the websites? Any help would be appreciated as I am at a loss.

There's is a Spyderco Valleton Sub-Hilt folder on the Spyderco website.

Next best place to purchase a knife would be Blade HQ. They are selling a "Auto Conversion" version. It looks the exact same so I'm probably wrong.

Either way I hope that's what you were looking for.

Also would like to say that's a beautiful Spyderco. I'm gonna debate purchasing one for my collection.

I could be way of here but I don't think the sub-hilt and the sub-hilt auto are the same as the cheapest I have seen the auto is $399 new.

I had a Vallotton and loved it but damn if it wasn't chunky in the pocket. I may have to revisit it

They are mostly the same knife, the Auto Conversion is a standard Spyderco Vallotton that has been converted to an automatic by Mr Vallotton himself. The sub-hilt piece of G10 is the button for firing the blade, you slide the G10 towards the back of the handle and that releases the leafspring, firing the blade.

I've seen the Auto Conversions on a couple of sites, and the cheapest is always around $400. The absolute lowest I've seen is $390. Since this is an aftermarket conversion, it is not possible to buy the Auto directly from Spyderco to my knowledge.

Interesting note, Mr Vallotton also appears to have made at least one of the auto conversions into a lefty model. Pretty sweet if you ask me.

Typically when you see a "conversion" knife it means exactly that. It has been converted from either auto to manual or manual to auto. It is in fact the same knife, but since the man himself is making it into something else, that is why you see the extra cost. If someone else does the conversion, the quality and skill in the work required may not be the same. Not just anyone can do that sort of thing and have a solid product after the fact. It's not a standard production item, not by a long shot. They pop up once in a while so if you want one, you better jump on it when you see it as it can get tough as time goes by.
You can start a WTB thread (that is Want to Buy) in the appropriate section or you can go to various online knife stores and see if they are available, one is mentioned above. That is about it.

There is one on the auto for sale forum now for 360. I have also seen em at gun shows for ~400.

I have one. The auto is not made by spyderco just the knife. An aftermarket conversion to auto done by butch vallotton makes the vallotton a dual action knife. Can open manually or by sliding top scale for auto. I think bhq sells the already converted vallorron for around $400
