Like most, I've possessed my fair share of Spyderco's and have really enjoyed their capabilities!

Had my eye on the Spyderco/Viele SP-42 for some time but has been rather low on the purchase list (isn't it hell to have to many competing blade tastes!). Haven't heard too much about them nor had the opportunity to play with one.

My Dad always gets a knife from us for X-mas (and birthdays and hell.....all other special occasions). This year is no different, so I decided to go with re-released SP-42 (plain edge). Ordered it a week or so ago and it arrived this past Friday.

Anticipation wasn't too bad until I had the box in front of me! As I was opening the box......that little knife voice kept running it's repeat message thru the brain matter ~ ~ "This had better be cool!"........ Finally got the knife out of the box/plastic wrap and was absolutely amazed (and then some). What a knife! Superb fit and finish! ! And has that wicked sharp Spyderco edge! ! !

What an exceptional buy.

My hat is off to the good folks @ Spyderco (and Howard Viele) again! !

Thanks GigOne for that mini-review. By an interesting coincidence, I just mailed a check out yesterday for the exact same knife (er, model).

Your comments will help tide me over while I'm waiting for it...

The revised Viele is one of the most impressive Spydercos made. I think it is a wonderful large gentleman's knife. The fit and finish is great and the edge is sharp. The eccentric pivot and VG-10 transformed the Viele from being a good knife to a best buy if someone is looking for a slick gentlemen's that is a bit on the large (3"+) side. I think the Viele gets overlooked because it is not a tactical like the Military, Starmate, Chinook etc. and because if is not an inexpensive zytel knife like the Delica, Calypso jr. and Native. Finally, the fact that it is over 3" means that it not legal for everyday carry in alot of jurisdictions. Still, if you can carry it, it is a heck of buy.

Sounds like I need one of those and the Bob Lum Chinese folder.....drat that Sal Glesser, what an instigator he is
