Spyderco visit

Its been about a month and at this point I've attempted to post about three time on this but wasn't sure what to say, I'm just going to tell you what I got out of it. For me Spyderco is the poster child of the American dream based on true american values where at the helm Mr Glesser has never swayed from his moral compass. We spoke of the companies tough times(three I think),politics,Things he has done for services members( like my 10% discount), His love for his employees by name, Graciously correcting me from frame lock to Integral lock with respect to Chris Reeve, Shown all his treasures from the twin towers(made my mom cry) to a presidential knife with a jaded story. Little of what we talked about was knives unlike what you would expect from a company with a logo recognized world wide, all came with a warm welcoming spirit and a sense all things good from a solid core. I'm not here to tell you all of what we shared but I will say if you get a chance to make it to Golden don't be afraid to ask to meet the man himself cause I almost did...knowing of what I would have missed now isn't worth it.

In closing I would like to say there should be a special thread for those who have met or had some type of interaction with the people behind Spyderco, That way when someone says they have a better knife from a better company I can tell them to read the thread and that I am anxiously waiting to meet with the founder...I have plenty of gass.

I dont know how to re-size, sorry.

Great story, thanks for sharing! I wish I bumped into Sal during my single trip to the SFO. I feel precisely the same way you do about Spyderco and the folks who run it.

I have to ask about the challenge coin. Were they selling them there or was that a special gift or memento? Sal was talking about making some challenge coins recently on the Spyderco forum. Maybe he went ahead and did it?

I seen a prototype of the new one and its very nice, I hope he will release it soon. This one was a gift and I carry it daily, now it looks as tarnished as his.

Sal is "the Man." And his company produces great knives. My favorites are most often Spyderco.

I enjoyed my visit to Golden as well, but I did not have the opportunity to meet Sal. I did have a pretty good conversation with one of the sales people there. I could have spent all day in the store, however, the wife and kids were not very entertained by that notion. Next time I will go alone. :D

Yes it is a great store I make it up there when I can, have yet to meet Sal or Eric but one day I hope! Also I was up there very recently looking for a pm2 (they were out of stock) I was a little disappointed, however Noha was kind enough to let me handle his so I could at least get a feel for one. I thought that was a pretty stand up move. As for the knife they promptly e mailed me when they had one in! But I already drove all over Denver 3 weeks ago till I found one, I'm real impatient... still good customer service I was impressed. I'm hoping to go up around father's day because that's a great excuse to go get a knife!

Sweet - thanks for taking the time to post and share! One of these days I'll make it out there... although I'll be looking for him at the BLADE SHOW this year!

I'm glad to see you had the opportunity to meet Sal! I was blessed with the same incredible experience and left Spyderco that day feeling like Sal was such a great human being that I want to support his company more than ever before.

Sal is a truly good person and I can't thank him enough for his generosity.

Thanks to Sal, I too left with a souvenir that I cherish as much or more than any knife I own. Milled from steel from the twin towers..it may be just a left-over cut-out..but it's sacred to me.
