Anyone have the Volpe model w/N690Co steel? What I know of this knife is that it's made in Italy, had a small amount of wood inlay on a stainless handle, (unusual for a Spydie) and has a full flat 3 7/16" blade. It is a framelock.

The top of the blade has an unusual-looking notch just in front of the thumbhole, not sure if it's for looks or function.

All in all, a good-looking knife, anyone that can provide a feedback on it would be appreciated.

Made by Fox Cutlery in Italy. Volpe is Italian for fox. They also now make a tiny version called the SpyFox, also with wood onlays.

How about I move this to the Spyderco forum? They've discussed the Volpe there.

I had one for a while. It is more a Fox knife than a Spyderco, IMHO. Spyderco tends to favor function over form (or looks), but the Volpe favors looks over function. I liked the wood inserts and steel framelock but sold it when I started liking titanium framelocks more. I never used it all that much, but the blade remained factory sharp and never picked up any rust spots. I wouldn't recommend it as a "core" Spyderco holding, but more as a complement to a collection.

As a user it's a great knife. The Steel is excellent, and the framelock is very strong for a knife of it's size. That steel frame locks up tight on mine.

I say it's a sleeper, and very underated. Another little big knife with tremendous strength and ability for it's size.

Definitely agree. It's one of those knives that grows on you after you use it a while. I don't EDC mine, but I do like to carry it from time to time and I've never had any problems with it.

It is a great knife. I was never impressed with Volpe, when I saw on pictures. I bought my first, when it was discontinued. You haveto hold it in your hand to see real beauty and feel ergos. Also 3.5" FFG blade and olive wood inserts are very nice. I bought too many.(I think four)

STP has them for sale at $67 (discounted 25%). That's making them pretty tempting.

I may be wrong on this, but I remember reading that the notch was a place to rest the index finger to improve control on more detailed cutting jobs.
