I personally prefer Spyderco! what do you guys prefer?

also what the hell is with this smilie :jerkit:
I really hope there is nobody doing this while looking at knives

I prefer Spyderco for various reasons, but I do like the ZT line from kershaw.

Spyderco has a great value for the price, whereas ZT makes some beefy knives.

Overall I prefer Spyderco, but I really like the ZT 300 series. Kershaw's smaller knives like the Scallion, Chive, Leek etc are excellent little knives for the money, especially if you like assisted openers.

i dont have an assisted opening! i would like one though

does ZT really count as Kershaw? Aren't they more of a sister brand owned by KAI like Shun?

and I prefer SpyderCo right now, need to get my hands on some decent Kershaws though

My current order

BM
spyderco
Kershaw

That being said I started out with kershaws, and think one of the next knives I will pick up will either be a kershaw zip or something in the leek/onion/scallion family. I had a scallion once, but I lost when I forgot about it at the airport, wasnt worth possibly missing my flight to send it home. I do love my kershaw outcast though.

Ok my general idea is that people prefer spyderco! Now lets pair it up against Benchmade!

Spyderco all the way!

I'm sorry, but I find all of their designs interesting, useful, refined, and ergonomic. Whereas Benchmade seems to follow beefy Axis locks and Kershaw seems to follow Ken Onion. Nothing against Mr. Onion, but I don't like his designs. The AO he designed is nice, but a lot of the knives Kershaw offers seem to be very like minded. Spyderco bucks this, and all of their knives are unique and very very interesting.

My list goes like this: 1.Spyderco 2. Benchmade 3. Kershaw
Benchmade is quite close behind spyderco, but i still prefer the spydies. I just love everything about them. Kershaw is, well, a bit strange. Although i do like the leek, chive and junkyard dog. If we are counting ZT as kershaws (which we shouldn't, they really aren't, they are just owned by the same people), then that helps them ALOT, but they are still 3rd, just much closer.

Spyderco, Benchmade, then kershaw for me as well.

Spydero knives have better ergonomics, are very comfortable to carry, and have fantastic blade steel.

Benchmade has good designs, great blade steel and locking mechs, but they are usually over priced.

Kershaw makes good stuff, however, recently they same to have some strange designs that look more appealing to the eye than to the hand. Plus, I HATE those fugly composite blades. Assisted Openerss used to appeal to me, but I think they are more of a fad. I can get my Spydies and BMs open just as easy, plus you don't have to worry about torsion bars breaking. I do need to try this new sandvik steel they uses. I never have so I can't say anything about their toughness, edge retention, ease of sharpening, or corrosion resistance. I like the looks of the ZTs, but I think they're a little too pricey.

O my.. wait till the Kershaw Mafia shows up

I'm only interested in their USA made offerings..

I still pick Spyderco over Benchmade. The only Benchmades that I really like, all things considered are the Hollow Ground Grips... The other BMs I've owned (940, Model 10 Bali, Gravitator Hybrid, Nimravus, CQC7) had a tooooo thick grind for my taste. I will say, while I don't like their HT on S30V, I loooooove their outcome with 154cm.

On the other hand, the Spydies I've owned (Native, UKPK, Military) have had excellent, very useful thin grinds... That is just what I like. I like the heat treat on their S30V. I think they do a better job with the finish on their composite handles, g10 & carbon fiber wise.

It really is a "to each their own" issue since there are MANY offerings from Benchmade which I just find unattractive... like the Skirmish... It's probably a VERY nice piece, but I just don't like the looks.. I REALLY REALLY wish they would do a Hollow Ground 940... THAT would be a NICE ONE!!!

Spyderco, Benchmade, then kershaw for me as well.

Same here. In my opinion, Spyderco has the most unique designs. Each knife is different. The Delica/Enduras are "basic knives," the Caly 3 is ergonomic and uses no washers, the UKPK uses a slipjoint, the Sages will come out in all different locks... They're all designed around a certain something.

Benchmades are more or less the same, in my opinion. They all resemble the same basic work knife. I like them, sure, but I think that one observation holds true.

Kershaw, to me, hasn't really put out anything I particularly like. The designs seem along the lines of "strange." And they all seem to revolve around the AO design, a feature I find unnecessary, just something else that can go wrong. The steel also doesn't appeal to me compared to what Benchmade and Spyderco regularly use, that is 154CM and VG-10.

O my.. wait till the Kershaw Mafia shows up

There should be 3 gangs:

Spyderco Spartans, Benchmade Brigade, Kershaw Mafia :D:thumbup:

Benchmade all the way. Far supirior customer service. Out of about 7 spydercos I've never had one that impressed me

I find myself carrying a Kershaw over Spyderco more often. That has more to do with the particular models I have rather than company wide qualities. Both are trendsetters. Both have unique designs.

All the observations so far of one vs the other I think don't hold up very well. Too many exceptions. Spyderco has unique designs... except for the ones that are redundant. Kershaw revolves around AO... except for the ones that don't. And so on.
