I have not owned a Spyderco yet. But after joining this forum and spending some time on the Spyderco forum, I have become interested in some of their products. I have been reading that they are charging for some repairs, that in the past they did not charge for. I am assuming that they are not charging for normal warranty work, but are charging for repairs that are not covered. I just wanted to have someone clarify this incase I misunderstood .

Hi 338375,

Welcome to our forum.

Your assesment is correct.

We had to change the policy several years back. We found that people were intentionally breaking things on their knives to "get a new free knife" and some policy change was needed to discriminate the repairs.

We still handle warrantee work on us. damage that is not "factory defect" is on you.

If we no longer make the model, and have no parts left, and it's a factrory defect, we will offer you a knife of equal value in replacement. (we have offered many different models over the years).

"Factory defect" is decided by us. "I threw it at the target and missed the target, it hit the brick wall and then landed on the concrete floor. It shoona broke the tip, gimme a new knife" is not a factory defect.

Thanks Sal, That clears things up. That is only fair. Can't expect a company to foot the bill for someones stupidity, although I'm sure there are people that do think that way. Am looking forward to buying your products. Mike
