Spyderco warranty

Hi I was wondering if you guys know if spyderco warranties g10 scales, I bought a paramilitary 2 couple of days ago, I know it is authentic but I noticed that the g10 grind is off. I was wondering if this would be replaced through warranty.

I am not saying anything bad about spyderco, I love the knife

Spyderco warrants all parts of their knives against defects. The only way to know for certain whether they consider that a defect, rather than just an acceptable imperfection, is to return the knife to them. I'd advise including a check for $5. If the knife is replaced under warranty, they won't cash it, but if they decide it's not a defect it will expedite returning your knife to you.

Hmmmm ... are those wear scraps in the G10?

I've seen Factory Seconds with no discernable defects so it's odd that something like that would escape notice.

As The Deacon said, send it in and see what they say.

Be careful..... I have had poor service from Spyderco. I sent them the same knife 2 times. First time they did fix what I sent it in for (Sticky lock - but it came back with more/other problems), and they did return my $5 check. But when I sent the knife in the 2nd time, they said they could not fix it, cashed my $5 check and returned the knife to me. Not good, and still has me feeling bitter. I like Spyderco, but the warranty is pretty bad.

This is funny. "We can't fix your issue so we're cashing the check." lol.

I'm sure they used the money to send you the knife back.

The first time they did the work for free. I'd say that's pretty good service.

Without further details I can't form an opinion that supports your "not good"claim.

Did you try windex on it or some oil? Could it be surface. My skin gets stuck on my military sometimes.

hey great knife =]

with all due respect and imho the para2 is a tool not a piece of jewelry. on top of that it is a mass produced piece set to mass production tolerances not custom tolerances. your copy may have a "defect" in your opinion but if use it like it was meant to be used and the g10 will end up looking like that anyways. im not saying all this to shit on your point... im just wondering is the trouble of going through their customer service process worth getting a different copy that will end up looking like the one you have anyways.

... disregard if your para2 is going to sit in the safe to look "pretty".

also and a bit more relevant to your question... a buddy of mine got a knife from spyderco that had some blade play, they said that though they consider some blade play acceptable they'd be willing to replace it anyways. im sure they'd extend the same courtesy to you.

one thing that i have done in the past when i got shitty copies was contact the seller's (not manufacturer) customer service let them know the product they sent was defective but im willing to keep it if they gave a partial refund and you just got a great knife for a deal. the better sellers have done this for me and i've never felt like i got a bum deal. i know for a fact that amazon has a policy that gets you an automatic 10% off and sometimes a refund on shipping if you decide to keep a defective item.

Everybody has different tolerance levels for slight imperfections but I would keep it and use it for sure.

I went ahead an sent in the knife under warranty. I just think that when you pay this kind of money for a knife, it should be free of defects brand new. I will post what they did, I love spydercos and hope to give a positive feedback.

But it is a human that inspects them, have you never overlooked something? Errors can get through but with Spyderco its pretty rare

If it were me, I'd return it to the seller. Almost looks like normal wear from the blurry photo. But I wouldn't spend a day with a knife I wasn't happy with out of the box, even if was a user. But that's just my brand of OCD. Seems like if you bought it advertised NIB, then maybe the seller should take care of it before it goes to Spyderco. Or, don't they make some cool aftermarket scales for the Para 2?

Agree; that looks like a simple scratch to me.

Even when the clip is moved from one position to another, there will be marks from where the flexible part of the clip touches the handle.

Might even disappear after being carried / used it for some time.

I could be wrong but I think you, and some of the others, are looking at the wrong thing. I'm fairly certain his complaint is that the width of the chamfer on the perimeter of the scale is uneven.

I bought a sprint run knife with DLC coating. There was rust that formed under the DLC along the grind lines of the blade that caused the coating to flake off. The knife was barely used. I sent an email with photos to Spyderco. They told me "rust generally isn't covered" but that I should send it in with a $5 check and they'll inspect it.

So, I have to pay for insured shipping to get the knife there with only an assurance that they'll take a gander. If they don't want to fix it they don't have to. They'll then have me pay return shipping to get my knife back.

Now, the pictures are pretty clear that the rust formed under the DLC in the grind lines, most obviously where the grind lines change direction from the flats to the bevel.

So, now I have the choice. Spend 10 to 20 bucks to ship the knife insured with their statement that they generally won't deal with that issue and then spend another 5 bucks to have my knife returned to me, or 2) live with it knowing that Spyderco's warranty isn't very good compared to other big names.

I'm not going to spend $160 for a $130 knife. Diminishing returns.

I'll say this, I bought a limited edition knife from another company. There was an issue that COULD have been me or it could have been a manufacturing defect. They had me send the knife in on my own dime but didn't ask for anything else. Turned out it was a manufacturing defect so they sent me another knife on their dime. Since it was a limited edition they didn't have many to choose from and the one they sent me was quite obviously going to be sold in their factory seconds sale. I brought the issue up and their service rep basically told me to live with it. I wrote a post about it here on this forum and was contacted QUICKLY by one of their managers. He sent me a shipping label THEY paid for. They received the knife back and saw the issues. For my troubles of having to repeatedly send knives back to them and then being brushed off by one of their reps they sent me a knife with an MSRP $200 over the MSRP of the knife I originally bought and needed replaced. That's customer service.

It may be ridiculous but that $5 check they're asking me to send doesn't sit right. Not when they should be able to clearly see from the photos what happened. It's just the principle of it.

Yes Paul, that is what I understood too from his post. Looks like someone got a little happy with the sander. :) I would use it but there's certainly nothing wrong with exchanging it if it bothers him.

Thanks for pointing that out - if that's the case, I got it wrong. I was thinking that the OP was asking about the scratches on G10
