I have an endura wave with a chipped tip which I've decided to sell. The chip was my fault; I accidentally dropped it tip down. Anyway, I'm not looking for something to replace it. I rotate my EDCs but this one was always my favorite. I'm considering getting a new one, but now I'm trying to decide between a plain edge (which is what i have) or a partially serrated one. I don't cut a lot of rope on a daily basis but I have some partly serrated knives and they seem to perform well for daily chores. The plain edge on the endura was great, shaving sharp out of the box. I can't decide whether to get another plain edge or the semi serrated. I realize that there are different opinions re: the two edge types, so i want to know various opinion.

A semi-serrated often gives you the worst of both worlds. Not enough serrations to be really effective and not enough plain edge to avoid getting hung up on the serrations. Get one or the other, IMO.

How big is the chip? With a little work you might be able to sharpen it out and make it unnoticeable. I'm sure the right people on here could provide some pointers on how to do that if it isn't too bad.

If you are going to get a new blade, go plain edge. Serrations are better for cheap knives that are never sharpened (or dedicated rope cutters) - with a nice steel you can get a great edge without serrations.

If you're really unsure, buy a $20 knife with a combo edge and use it for a few weeks or months. The only CE I have is alright, but I never carry it without a swiss army knife that has a plain edge.

Go either full PE or full SE. The only knife I ever liked CE was my M21-SFG, and given the option, I would have done full PE on the blade. But the Veff serrations rocked!

Get a PE E4W and a fully serrated Tenacious. When I carry my E4W I carry another blade for use. The Endura is for SD only
