Figured I'd go right to the source for this .....

I'm wondering, how do you like Spyderco's wire clips, such as on the Native III and D'Allara drop point? Are they less prone to getting "sprung" than flat clips? Hold well?

Also, are there any models other than the Native III and D'Allara with wire clips?

Thanks in advance.

I find the wire clip snags on stuff much less. I like it better than the clip on my Rescue 93mm.

The Poliwog and Dodo both have wire clips as well (there's probably others, but that's what I think of offhand).

I like the wire clips too and prefer them over the solid black variety. The new Caly 3 has a wire clip and is a really fine knife. I picked one up at the SFO on Thursday and have been carring it since.

I like the one on my Dodo.

I can clip it to things that I couldn't with a regular clip.

For example: When clipped to my shirt, I can clump a bit of material in the open space and the blade won't migrate.

The discontinued MeerKat was a wire clip model, as is the UK Penknife. Personally, I like the wire clips, they seem less prone to scratching other things (such as paint, furniture, etc.) and also seem to eat pockets at a MUCH slower rate than the flat clips.

Spyderfly also has one and I love it, wish my black bladed native was a 3rd gen so I could have one on it

Nothing wrong with the wire clip - I EDC an UK-Penknife :)

BTW the Assists are wire clip models too.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Been thinking about this for a while, sounds like it's pretty much unanimous.

Adding to shopping list ..... :)

I found the wireclips to be extremely comfortable and reliable. The Meerkat's wasn't quite inspired, but all the other ones perform just fine.
I like wireclips so much that I replaced the regular barrel bolt clips to my Delicas with wireclips - normal wireclip like there is at the Salsa for my PE and self made low ride wireclip for the SE. :)

Isn't the upcoming, highly anticipated P'Kal also a wire clip model?

Well, I really like the Calypso jr. design but was debating getting the new Caly 3 because of the wire clip, never had one before and I didnt know how it would hold up, I went ahead and ordered one though since everyone here seems to support the wire clip over the standard style.

Thanks

Trying to decide which wire clip model I'd prefer, I found this older thread (tried searching BFC before posting, search function just never works quite like I expect):

Sounds like Spyderco sees the advantages too, but wire clips cost more. Frustrated as I've become with flat steel clips, a couple extra bucks sounds like it would be worth it .... or having them as an option would make everybody happy.

Love the way it works, hate the way it looks- but then Spyderco has always been more about function. Given a choice, I would go for the wire for the reasons already mentioned.

I love how it works AND looks. It's very low profile (not literally, but it's difficult to tell it's a knife), clips really well and doesn't show scratches like other subtle clips (which are usually coated). My favorite kind of clip ever.

Some options are easy but I think this one would be tough. The wire clips require completely different machining. Unlikely (IMO)

Love the wire though. I would elect that, always, given the choice.
