Hello.

When comparing these two knives, they look almost identical in form. If you look at them as self defense folders, the Kershaw with Speedsafe would deploy even faster.

Price wise, the Kershaw is only $38...

Other than "premium" materials, what would I be gaining by buying the Spyderco?

Thanks.

G10 handle scales for starters. A way better grip, as well as a super strong lock called the compression lock. It is well worth the extra money to get the yojimbo 2. I have both and let me tell you its like night and day.

the needs work came in G10 and FRN. in several colors in fact. blue red and black. the needs work is more of a "entry level" yojimbo

Seen more than a couple people on the forums mention their Needs Work not holding up so well, liner lock would kill it for me without even seeing that though. Kershaw liner locks all together probably get the most negative comments out of the name brands.

Yojimbo 2 is a much cooler knife - if I had plenty of money I would purchase one even though I don't personally like the blade shape or handle design because I've watched used Yojimbo folders sell for a lot of money and its a safe bet Yojimbo 2 will follow a similar path.
