Do I understand correctly that I can get a Delica or Calypso Jr. with a blade of ZDP-189 laminated between 420J2, or a Caly3 with a solid (100%) ZDP-189 blade?

If so, is there any reason to fear that the laminated version is inferior in any practical way? Like, will it delaminate at some time in the future?

Thank-you very much......................frank

The Delica and Endura are solid ZDP, while the Caly Jr. and Caly 3 are laminated. The only practical difference you may see is the laminated blades scratch a little easier. In my experience the laminated blades I have (Jess Horn and Caly Jr.) are holding up just fine with no issues to speak of.

Thanks, Mike.

So, both the Caly 3 and Caly Jr. are laminated, huh? I have to weigh this info in my mind, and decide what to do. I'd LIKE a Caly 3 in solid ZDP 189, with G-10 scales. No such luck, I guess.

Again, thanks....................Frank

I bought one of the earliest Burgundy Calypso Juniors back in the summer of 05 and it has been one of my main EDCs ever since I've bought it. I usually resharpen it about once a month with light touch ups on a 204 Sharpmaker in between sharpenings. Mine has the laminated version of ZDP-189 and I can't say anything but GOOD about it.

I don't think you can go wrong with any ZDP-189 Spyderco blades. I personally think it is great blade steel and it is one of my favorites. What I find extremely funny is that as good of edge holding properties that ZDP has it is still 3 times easier to sharpen than that 440V Crucible blade steel that Spyderco used on some of their past madels  :D .

I am personally lobbying very hard for the past 6 months for Spyderco to reintroduce the Massad Ayoob C-60 model with either ZDP-189 or Crucible's newer M-4. ZDP-189 Spoken here for sure

Thanks again for the help. I think I'm going for the Caly3. Carbon fibre scales and laminated ZDP-189 scales. Why not choose the most expensive option? :-)
