Another new one coming out of the pipeline:

Combo edge only. Matte-finish black linen micarta. A narrow spear-point than the Native. The false edge is, of course, for pulling staples and other stuff you wouldn't do with the sharp edge.

Sweet! Classic and elegant! Looks to be sort of small, though. What's the blade length and steel type?

Nice scan, BTW.

From the Spyderco on-line catalog, at www.spyderco.com/knife/cat_cc56.html :

The C56 features a spear-point, hollow-ground blade of AUS-8 stainless steel that’s 3 3/16" (81 mm) in length with a defined swedge grind on the top. Available with a SpyderEdge™/PlainEdge™ blade configuration, the Zowada will be available in limited quantities. The round hole is stream-lined for a sleek, clean look. Tapered and comfortable, the handle is matte finished, bead-blasted Micarta® with a Linerlock®. Overall length is 7 11/16" (195 mm) and it weighs 3.1 oz (9 g).

Great day in the morning, THAT'S my birthday present! I even have over 2 weeks to find one.

OK, it was a toss-up between the Zowada and the Wrench, but due to the limited availability of the Zowada, I'd rather pick this one up first. BTW, the original pic that I saw on knifecenter.com said it would be offered in either plain edge or partial serrations and is tip-down carry.

The hunt is on!

I like the contours of both the blade and handle, very versatile. My only criticism would be that the thumb hole looks to be quite proportionally smaller in diameter than several comparable size models. The smallest diameter I'm comfortable with is the one on the Renegade.
I would suggest widening the hole as far out as the space will allow, even if it is a tiny amount.
Of course the better solution, in my opinion, is to make the whole thing *larger*, say something around the 4" neighborhood? At least maybe a large 'variation' for the future?

Now this is strange. The Spydie Zowadas I saw for sale over here in Sweden this spring (Yes, we allways get the goodies before you, and yes, I want to brag about it...) Was polished micarta and polished blade. Not beadblasted stuff like the one shown here. Sal, was it prototypes/pre-production we saw over here?

The scan shows the blade less bright than reality. It's not bead blasted, but a fairly bright satin finish. The handle doesn't look bead blasted either, but sanded with something medium-grit instead of polished bright.

One problem with scanning knives directly on the flat bed scanner instead of taking them to a professional photographer is that polished steel comes out black, not mirror bright, in the image. With a camera, you see whatever the blade is reflecting. The trick is to make the blade reflect a white sheet or something like that. With the scanner, I turn the knife so that the scanner light moves across the grind lines and not along them. If it moves along them, it's like scanning a mirror polished blade, and it comes out almost black. With the light moving across the grind lines, it sometimes looks like a coarser satin finish than it really is.
