I see from viewing the forums and threads that Spyderco knives are quite popular. I havnt heard of them until joining this forum.

Why is Spyderco so popular? What is it about them?

IMO, very good knives (ergos, design, construction, fit and finish) at various price points. Lots of options, great customer service, in my very limited experience.

they've been around a long time with a history of quality products...they also have a unique style (primarily that "spyder hole")...i personally don't care for their knifes and that's only because i don't like the style, NOT because of quality...

...you need to read thru bladeforums more and most of your general questions can be answered...

It just overall quality. They have great ergos, blade steels, grip material, and everything else.

They have great prices considering what you get. The steel they use is mostly VG-10 which is great stuff (their heat treat is also great), their designs are neat, but may not appeal to some people, the customer service is top notch and they have been around for a while.

Spyderco makes a whole bunch of knives that are all of excellent quality.

If you are new to knives, check out Kershaw, Spyderco, and Benchmade. All three put out very good quality knives at reasonable prices.

My personal favourite is Kershaw because I like the huge variety of unique designs in their lineup, and I feel that you get the most knife for your dollar.

If you're new, definately look at Kershaw. They have the most diverse lineup and their CS paired with their great value factor make them a winner for sure. You should go to Walmart and buy an Od-1 and Skyline, both are great knives and only $40 and $35 respectively. They're great intro knives to becoming an addict.

Spyderco is my most recent purchase, a Paramilitary. I am new to nice knives having always had a cheap beat up dull 'pocketknife' around, nothing special. Recently things have changed with 3 or 4 Benchmades and Kershaws, SAKs, Gerbers, Beckers, Ka-Bars and Cold Steel. All the purchases were directly influenced by seasoned BFers and You Tube gurus.

I just didn't like the looks of Spyderco with the hole and all. But rave reviews sent me shopping for one and the Paramilitary arrived last week. WOW what a smooth-as-silk operating knife. The G-10 is perfect. D2 is shaaarp. The shape is great and the lock is strong on top. I love the hole! So as a newbie with the other companies representated well in the $100 range I can say Spyderco wins with the overall quality and intangible appeal award. All the others have some outstanding qualities as good or better, but this knife has it ALL.

A guy stopped me in the Orange Big Box store yesterday and asked if he could borrow my knife, saw the clip. I said heck no! This one is mine, all mine! No one touches my new Spyderco!

A Tenacious and Persistence are next. I may be able to lend those out for 20 seconds without stressing out. Maybe not:grumpy:

Sal put an adjustable pivot pin in the Caly 3 for me (it was originally was going to be pinned).

That's one example of why I like Spyderco so much.

Innovative products, usually with a high level of quality.

They invented that clip you probably have on almost all your pocket knives today as well as a hole in the blade for opening one handed. They didn't stop there and keep coming out with new features and designs.

Really? I've heard of Spyderco before hearding about any other tactical/combat folder. They basically invented the concept of tactical/combat/military folding knife. 99% of the folders you see in Hollywood movies and TV series are Spyderco.

You can't go wrong buying a Spyderco. You'll get top quality for your money, plus a great edge and awesome service.

They are a top of the line company based in Golden, CO. Excellent products, customer service, reasonable prices, etc...

Also, the company was the first to put a clip on a knife, have the first one-handed opener, and have the first serrations on blades. They are pioneers in the knife world.

IMHO, they are the best company out there for knives.

Try the Spyderco Tenacious for cheap and see if you like it. That's one of the best knives they make.

There are entire threads dedicated to reciting what we love about Spyderco. One thing that comes up often is that Sal Glesser (Founder and President of Spyderco) reads our posts both here and on the factory forum, often responding to our questions and comments himself. The company has produced several new designs and a bunch of limited runs of others based entirely on the feedback received from us. That is something you just can't put a price on. The affordable high-performance knives are great, but the little (and big) extras are even better.

I received my Spyderco Tenacious yesterday and I cannot say but: I fully understand why Spyderco is so popular. I mean Tenacious is one of the cheapest Spyderco's there are in Real Spyderco line up.

Finishing was excellent. Blade opened smoothly, linerlock has been superior in quality, contruct and feeling over otherbrands I've had like CRKT. Not to mention Spyderco's come razor sharp out of the box.

My to buy list in next year or two is:
Spyderco Persistance
Spyderco Para-military
Spyderco Manix 2

Please get one and find out. ;)

^This. You really can't tell from the pictures how much you'll like a Spyderco.

After I got my first Delica, I was hooked. Yes, a lot of their designs do look really funky, but as soon as you hold one you'll realize why.

Plus, they do make a lot of very unique knives. You have to look beyond just the FRN and Back Lock models that are so ubiquitous. ;)
