Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone has or has ever used any spyderco fixed blades. I really like the looks of the Rock Salt and the Hossom Forager, are they any good for a camping utility application?

I've used the Forester, Swick and Aqua Salt all quite a bit. I've been interested in the Rock Salt for a long time and would be buying one at their current price if I had the spare $$ for knives.

The Swick is a nice EDC, neck knife or compact fixed blade utility knife. It's like a highly ergonomic CPM S30V box cutter with seriously good grip retention.

The Aqua Salt is a tough, stain proof utility blade that can be servicable in a variety of applications. Food prep in the kitchen, gardening, camp utility, fishing / marine use etc. Great smaller blade.

The Forester is a very fun knife to swing around. Compared to my Scrapyard Dogfather its lighter, so it's less of a full on wood chopper, kind of like an overbuilt machete in a sense. It can do a good job of trimming up trail paths, breaking apart firewood, building shelters and all that fun stuff. Only negatives is under intense chopping it's possible to loosen the handle scales (Loc tite would fix that) and while you can use some muscle with this knife while prying, it's not something I'd pry very hard with like I would the scrapyard. Not something I typically do with my knives but with the big fixed blades sometimes I end up prying apart wood. The sheath it comes with is very nice overall, except it's a bit looser retention-wise than I like. Amazing value for the price you can currently purchase them for.

I've got the Dayhiker. Like the steel and the handle isn't bad but it's pretty lightweight. Might not be that great of a chopper but for cutting and slicing I like it.

I have the temperance 2 and the thing is great, grippy micarta, 5in and made to work. Been some favorable reviews here about it.

Great slicer, good food prep, glides through bones filleting

Whittling and carving it outshines my military with the comfy contoured handle and full tang, not a chopper at 5 in flat ground but can still handle kindling splitting. (trying to reduce the buzzwords ""bushcraft and batoning "!!)

Would make a perfect self defense blade, you can lash\clip it many ways even reversed for left/off hand draw, horizontal etc.

Steel is vg-10, wish it was something better for the price but spyderco's vg-10 has held up for me in others and my fallkniven s-1.

good knife, more you handle it the more it grows on you

hmm, well I'm leaning more towards the forester for an overall knife, because the rock salt looks more like a chopper. How would you think these knives would compare against the RC-6? cause i've also been considering that
