Hi all,
Does anyone own this knife?I have a chance to purchase one. But really don't know if it is a wise decision. They certainly are a beautiful numbered edition.
The knife would cost me around $200. MSRP: $359 and up.
I like knives I can use. Even though it is a commenrative, I think it could be carried.
I especially like the hand engraved "spyders" on Damascus bolsters.
What do you think. I don't want this to be an impulse purchase, but...
Thanks for your input.
Warmest wishes,
Prof. Ed:confused:

I don't own this knife, but it is one sweet looking knife.

If your realy thinking of getting one better act quickly. Just visited a couple site and they were sold out and $200 is a great price!

I say get one - they are really nice looking, definately stand out from the crowd, and at $200 if I were you, I'd always kick myself if I never got one.
I know how that goes, believe me - I've done this a few times before, "Well, I probably really wouldnt use it, even though thats a good price" and then 6 months or a year later "I really should have gotten one of those, was really dorky of me not to"
Go for it.

BTW, I dont think the Spyderco symbol is engraved, I believe its actually forged into the pattern of the mosaic damascus.

I have no experience with this knife, but I do know that the regular Delica is a very good liitle knife. I like the looks of the 25th Anniversary and at $200.00 it sounds like a good deal. It sounds like you want to pick up this knife and I can see no reason not to.

I have had an opportunity to handle this knife and to inspect it pretty closely at SPYDERCO booth at IWA'2003 trade show in March (Nuremberg, Germany). It is completely functional knife what could be used for all tasks what each other knife should fit. Due to steel liner based and bolstered horn handle it feels significantly heftier than lightweight Delica. It looks very classy and could make excellent suit carry knife or gentleman's knife.
However it is rather collector item than pure user knife. Because this is the knife what once issued will never be manufactured again. It is some kind of gift what SPYDERCO fans could make for themselves. It is some kind of milestone in SPYDERCO history and entire knife industry's history what SPYDERCO influences a lot, as well.

Here it is with the gift box it comes with.
BTW, the Spydies at the bolster are not engraved. This is specially hand made damascus steel and these Spydies go straight through all the thickness of the bolster. The steel plate the bolster is made of looks the same way from the both sides.

There are my comments on the knife only. I don't want to influence your decision anyway, such decisions anyone should make by him- or herself, in silence, after decent reflection.

I own several Spydercos, but in my opinion that's one of the ugliest knives I've ever seen

I have one ordered with my regular supplier in the States. The worst part is that it is in and ready but the order isn't shipping because another part of the order is not due for a couple of days :(

I agree with Prof Ed, I will be carrying it for special occations. Because it is clipless I have been talking to Gary Graley about getting one of his custom leather sheaths. I've wanted a GG sheath for a while, but I wanted to wait until I had a deserving knife :D

Nope - I think it's just plain ugly. Two completely different styles stuck together.

"I think it's just plain ugly. Two completely different styles stuck together"

Ohhh, yes. I have seen that point before. The beauty of Spyderco usually is in their utility, not the aesthetics. Makes some sense, but personally, I still appreciate when they "Dress it up" as in this Delica's case.

If you want it, get it. Especially if you think you will kick yourself later if you don't. You could always sell it on eBay or BFC if you decide that it's not for you. At that price you won't be in danger of loosing money later if you do sell.

If I could find one I would buy one in a hurry. I think it really is a magnificent peice.

I have to agree that it is really pretty ugly, and that's a big shame. The mosaic damascus is beautiful, the knife if very functional, but they just don't "go" with the amber jigged bone. I almost bought one at Country Knives, until my wife grabbed my arm and said "THAT'S UGLY!" I stepped back and had to agree. It's an important knife historically, because it's one of the few, if only production knives to use mosaic damascus, but that unfortunately does not change its looks. Mother of pearl or white bone scales might have worked, or a run of limiteds in abalone, pearl, ivory, fossil ivory, etc. I'm afraid Spyderco missed the boat on this one. If they made say 25 in pearl and abalone each, 50 each in ivory and fossil ivory and the rest in ivory micarta or even plain white bone, then you'd have a series of "instant" collectibles! They also would look alot nicer.

It's an interesting knife but not the prettiest knives I've seen. I don't think the scales go well with the damascus either.....

I thought it was BUTT UGLY!!!!!   :( :(
It really grew on me though, and now I have to say it is one beautiful knife! The contrast of the bolsters and damascus is really eye-catching.
