Spydercos that sheeple admire

I've noticed that when I pull out my Khalsa to hand to a non-knife person that needs to cut something, they often say "What is this??" If I pull out my Cricket they tend to say "Wow, could you kill someone with that?" But if I hand them my carbon fiber Dragonfly -- even with serrations -- even to a lady, they often say "oooohh.." and proceed to cut what needs to be cut.
Does the Calypso Liteweight have the same effect with its fishscale texture? Has anyone noticed this same thing with other Spydies?
And if not, could we get a Calypso Liteweight in carbon fiber? :^)

If simple innovation floats your boat, then the lightweight Calypso would be made less by the use of carbon fiber. The 2-way texturing of the fish scales is one of the better "little touches" I've seen in a long time. Always positive gripping regardless of the direction of pressure.

The Spyder I've found to turn the most "non initiated" heads has been my Lum.

Should be interesting to see how the Mouse comes across. You listening there, James?

I'm not really talking about innovation, I'm talking about the fact that even someone who know nothing about knives can look at a knife, admire its appearance, cut with it comfortably, and appreciate the good taste of the owner. They are unlikely to notice the difference in pressure equilibrium made by the 2-way fishscales; but they are likely to notice that they look neat (as does the carbon fiber).
I haven't handled a Lum, so I don't know how sheeple would react. I suspect it turns heads for a different reason.

You never know what knife is going to scare of fascinate a "non-knife person." The non-knife person (a lady a few years older than I am) who runs the mailboxes place I use covets and swears she's going to buy a Spyderco-D'Holder Toad or maybe a Mini-Dyad someday soon, but she's still afraid to open and close either of them, and she'd rather not touch the BladeForums Blue Native, even though I've demonstrated how it's designed not to bite your finger when you close. But she loved my Pro-Tech Duke switchblade (not to be offered for sale here in California) in anodized titanium and satin-finished 2 1/2" blade, and had no problem snapping it and closing it without fear.

And I meet lots of people who have little or no fear of a fixed blade kitchen knife or even a fixed blade "hunting knife," but who freak out at the idea that a knife can open and close.

Go figure.

The Spyderco Jess Horn with jigged bone scales, C27 in plain edge, like a gem actually, can't bring myself to use it!

I do know what you're saying! We did a trial run at Denver International Airport to check on various aspects of travel with a two year old : ) last week.

I took several Spydies with me to see which I could carry with me on board. The DIA rules are "3 and 1/2 inches is Bueno". The knives I asked airport security about were a serrated Native, a serrated Khalsa - both way under the length stated but not allowed because they are "DEADLY WEAPONS". A plain Endura "OK TO CARRY ON BOARD". The Endura is either right at 3 1/2 inches or slightly under. The airport security staff didn't measure the length of any of the knives. They did take the two serrated knives (but NOT the Endura) to their supervisor to look at though.

MAYBE THAT'S WHY AIRPORT SECURITY PERSONNEL MAKE LOUSY CARPENTERS... ROFLMBO!!!

I've had more paper cuts than cuts from knives, but the knives are QUICKLY gaining!

Love that word, "SHEEPLE"..HAHAHhahah...It fits. I usually get alot of looks when I use my simple Endura II..Really gets funny looks when I set in Longhorn and cut my steak with it..Anyone else do the steak thing?? Had a Few "What the F**ks wrong with you" when someone notices my Nealy Pesh-Kab riding iwb.

Contrary to what our fine $5@hour employeess who guard our airports believe the FAA and Federal regulation about pocketknives is 4" or less. There is no such thing as SERRATED means dangerous weapons..GLOBE security in its infinite wisdoim tried to hand write this into its guide/rule books with the idea that they would use it to discourage "children" or individuals that they deemed "WRONG" about carrying steel onto the airlines. Most airlines prefer 3" or less...but there are no laws about it EXCEPT the FAA and federal....
I had many a discussion with the FAA reps and police about this..We will be doing a legalities tape very shortly to address these unintentional abuses of the law and to explode common mythos about knife usage and carry!

Interesting story about DIA - Thanks. Last time I went through there, I had a Ladybug in my briefcase, and a Super Tinker in my horn case. Once I got through the checkpoint, I just took the knives out and stuck them in my pocket.
Back to the subject, my Khalsa gets lots of attention.
