SpyderEdge in EDC?

Just curious how the VG-10Spyder Edge holds up to everyone's EDC and under what conditions? I know you can get them factory resharpened, but I'm a big DIY'er and I know serrations can be a major PITA to sharpen...

it is a well rounded steel and if you have or get a sharpmaker sharpening them is easy. watch the DVD if you have questions.

I have used an endura SE and a harpy SE as a commercial fishermen and professional mariner. VG-10 is a good balance between edge retention and corrosion resistance.

It holds up great. I've had a SE Ladybug on my keys for the last 6-8 months, and I've been using that Ladybug hard. The serrated edge just keeps on cutting, and has turned a tiny knife into something that handles most tasks. No chips, serrations aren't rounded over, and it's very easy to sharpen on the Sharpmaker. You only use the corners of the rods, half the steps! Also, the saber grind and the serrations seem to make for a strong blade with a thick tip, too.

VG-10 with an SE holds up great! I love teeth on my knives and I think the VG-10 SE on the Enduras and Delicas is outstanding for edge retention. :)

You will be in for a pleasent suprise the spyderedge actualy cuts pretty good for most edc task and stays sharp for quite a while.

Here's a user VG-10 that has performed quite well. It seems to me that the edge lasts almost forever, in part because it just seems that a Spydie edge lasts a long time irrespective of blade steel. This one has never been sharpened as long as I've owned it, and I've noticed no degradation in cutting ability.

VG-10 marking barely visible here.

Cool, good to hear the feedback! Guess I'll give the E4 SE a shot for a while

The VG10 serrated knives are pretty good. I have not had good experiences with the H1 Pac Salt serrations though. I had it in my waistband while doing some surfcasting this summer and the edge totally dulled on me without cutting anything. It was just from the salt water.

That is interesting as I have heard that the serrated H-1 edge is the hardest that spyderco puts out due to the work hardening of the steel at the edge during the process of grinding the serrations. Having used H-1 in a marine environment for several years I can't see how the salt water would dull any knife's edge, especially one that is made of a corrosion free alloy. can you elaborate on this experience?

I have had high carbon steels like 1095 and O1 dull just from exposure to seawater when the edge began to rust but I have never had any stainless steel dull from just being wet with salt water.

I have used VG-10, ATS-55, 8Cr13MoV, H-1, AUS-6, AUS-8, 420HC, 440A, 440B, 440C, 440V, CPM S30V, AUS-4 and 420J2 all in a marine environment, constant daily exposure to seawater and salt brine and none have ever dulled just from exposure to salt water.

I don't know, man. That's just my experience with it. I was browsing YT vids earlier and CutleryLover had a similar experience with this H-1 Ladybug
