Can only use the Gatco Tri-Seps triangular 3" diamond/ceramic hone (it has two edge thicknesses for serrations).
My question is, what exactly is the best way to sharpen serrations? I can shave with any of my plain edged blades, but my Military is the first serrated edge I've owned...thanks in advance.

The GATCO Tri-Seps (ceramic) is my favorite small sharpener. I find it works best if you ignore the instructions that come with it. Instead, hold the the Tri-Seps between thumb and middle finger and carefully let the blade glide down the rounded corner -- I never use the flat side, even for plain edges -- following the original bevel.

Needless to say, this is easier with small knives than it's going to be with the Military. Use the fat corner for the big scallops in the serration pattern and the narrow corner for the little scallops. After you've finished the entire blade length, you can then take the burr off by running the sharpener lightly along the back side of the blade.

That said, unless you use your Millie hard, you're not going to need to sharpen it for a very long time.

I just never could get the hang of using the Tri Steps in that manor Dave, my 1st attempt completly made a Gerber Gator useless.
I have better luck allowing the serrations to ride over the sharp corners and into the serrations in a pulling stroke.
The Gatco is a great in the field sharpener. Ron

Edited to say that the Gator was pretty much useless before with it's butter soft steel

I had the tri-seps and gave it away. The rubber ends don't position properly as they're too soft - so why did they make them anyways?

use the triangular corner like a sharpmaker. That's the best way to sharpen on the tri-seps from my experience.
