Always been a Spyderco fan, as well as a fan of Benchmade. I have recently aquired an AFCK (benchmade). I love the design, but frankly would not have givin it a second look had it not carried the beautiful spyder round hole. I was wondering what the die-hard spydy fans thought of this "collaboration" (ok, licensing agreement, but we try not to stress the fine print)? Does BM live up? Thanks for sharing yer opinions, good and bad. E

The AFCK is my favorite factory knife. It is the one I carry more often then any other, including customs. It has it's flaws, as does most every knife. I modify mine, to correct some of what I consider to be minor design flaws. I make the forward angle of the finger notch a little more perpendicular to the spine, back of the knife. I also make it a little deeper. This offers a more secure grip. I also add serrations to the spine towards the pivot. I add a thumb recess on the scale opposite the liner lock for easier access the the thumb hole and to provide a more stable grip for the fore finger. I would be happy with the knife as is from the factory, but if you can make soemthing better, why not?

I have a feeling the AFCK will be getting a strong run for the money when Spyderco releases the Chinook and Gunting. I am really liking the designs of these knives.

Dirk,
I wonder what it would take to have Spyderco and Benchmade colaborate again on a BM AFCK Axis lock. WOW!!!

I myself have been following the axis AFCK thread. I was actually going to propose the same idea the day that one was posted, but the BM forum doesn't really seem to like my password anymore. Keep em coming, this is fun.

AXIS Lock AFCK, a knife whose time has come!

Sal, it's ok to discuss any knife with a hole in the blade in the Spyderco forum, right?

The AFCK was definitely one of my favorites....until it was stolen

Dirk, you wouldn't happen to have a picture of the Chinnok, would ya? I've only seen a rough drawing of the design.

The AFCK is definately a classic. It is not a perfect knife, but one of my favorites. I would love to see an AFCK Axis lock. I am really not sure why there isn't one. Someone said it has something to do with the fact that Spyderco wont license the hole for a new knife. Is an old design with a new lock really a new knife? Anyway I wish Spyderco would let Benchmade make the update. It would be one helluva knife for sure.

I find the handle on the AFCK to be too large and boxy for my taste. Also, it's profile is so aggressive that it tends to startle the straights a little too often for me to carry it a lot.

I got the afck when it first came out . This was my most expensive knife at the time, when it came in the mail I was a little disapointed. The tip is a little to thin for my use and I really like a close blade to handle ratio which the afck lacks. Now I do like the knife alot it cuts great and locks up tight , I like the feel of the handle I just wish it had a little more meat at the tip and a little less handle. Now I know alot of people like the thin tip but I often use my knife for more than cutting and I need a strong tip. A couple night tricks ago we went for a child struck. when we got there we had a kid down and a large crowd, I grabed the trauma box and went to the scene as I tried to open the box the latches would not release( someone had closed it with a roll of 3 inch tape between the trays) I pushed down on the top and pulled at the latches still would not open. the crowd was not happy that we couldnot even open the box! Out came my CS tanto point folder stuck it behind the latch and gave a hard twist , pop goes one latch pop goes number two. Now I like my afck but if I was carring that ,that night the pop would the been the tip breaking off. Now if your only going to cut with your knife the afck is great at that but I always carry a second knife with my afck that can handle the things the afck can't.
