Spyderhole... in my pants.

Hi, guys. I have been experiencing an interesting problem with the way I carry my Chinook II. I carry it to work in NYC (not a very knife-friendly place), so I don't use the pocket clip. I like to carry it tip up inside my pocket.

If you look at the ends of the Chinook II, the edges are all rounded, except for one corner, which sits at the bottom of my pocket. So far, I have worn a hole through 2 pairs of dockers-style pants at exactly that spot  . I'm not talking about the pocket - it wore right through the front of the pant leg. It took me a while to realize what was causing this to happen.

Since I figured this out, I have been carrying it tip up, so that angular edge is not pressing against my pants. I'm not so happy about carrying it this way though, because for some odd reason I just cannot deploy the blade nearly as quickly.

Does anyone have any other ideas? Anyone else experience this wierd problem?

Magill's .com sells an inside the pocket knife holster (find it under concealment holsters) for about $30. What it is is a sheath that sits inside your pocket. It will accommodate a knife with a clip. Because of the way its designed it keeps the knife oriented in a vertical position so you don't have to fumble around looking for it. This might be what you are looking for.

metallicat - thanks for the tip. That may be just what I need. Is it designed to hold folders, in the closed position?

Sal - the part that seems to wear through the pants is the corner of the handle that meets the thumb-ramp (on the spine of the blade) when the knife is open. It is the only edge of the handle that is not rounded.
The way I like to carry the knife, all of the knife's weight is resting on that corner.
Thanks for your interest. It's great that you keep a personal involvement with your customers.

Hi. Yes it holds the folders in the closed position. I carry my Sebenza in it, but its of a size to fit my police or military.

Chinook II = Pants buster? ummm...

No, I did not mean to give that impression.

It's just the way I personally carry it. If you use the clip, or if you carry it at the bottom of your pocket tip down, you should not have this problem. I only have this problem because I carry the Chinook II at the bottom of my pocket with the tip up, which all the weight of the knife on the only "angular" corner of the handle.

Any other carry mode should be fine.

This is my favorite knife, which is why I own three of them. :)
