Spyders misunderstood/overlooked

As the title would indicate I think there were a few models of Spyders that were completely misunderstood or just somewhat overlooked: 2 in particular. Two of them that I thought were incredible knives but you just don't hear much fanfare about them are: The C-50 Centofante II and the C-23 Renegade.

I carried both knives EDC for a while and had very good performance from both of them. But I don't think that I had more that 2 other people give them any praise  . I think that both designs were very practical and useful. But I feel like they were completely overlooked and overshadowed by some of the other Spyder classics.

2 questions I have: Do any of you agree with me that these great blades didn't get their deserved recognition? And wouldn't you all also agree that both of these blades would make superb comeback candidates with newer/better blade steel?

I have one, old-style molded clip, had it since the mid-90s, that nobody has ever talked about. It's called the Flat Iron Folder. Great knife.

I have only seen one of those Flat Iron Folders ever and one other one on Ebay. That bird is so rare I don't think I could have ever used it. But I bet it is a great user knife. :)

Jot Singh Khalsa.

I agree totally>> I truly wish that they would bring back the Jot Khalsa with a newer blade steel. The handle is A-OK on that model. That was one thing I really liked about the C-40 Jot Khalsa was the well engineered handle. That was a really cool era in which that knife was in production. ;)

Here's a vote for the SWICK.

Apart from a very vocal core group of fans, theres not much being said about this one. It is in my opinion, arguably the best neck knife available, and it's made even better by the fact that it's not required to be worn as a neck knife.

It's an extremely versatile blade, in a great steel, and it looks awesome.

Hey JD... Have to agree with ya there on the Renegade, as a matter of fact I pulled mine out of the safe yesterday and tossed it in the right front just for grins for a day.... However the Adventura has replaced it tonight....

Adventura is great but the ss handle gets so scarred up it ruins the beauty of the blade. I would love to see it in CF or G10

Black Hawk.

S/F,
CEYA!

Yeah Ceya I should have included the Blackhawk with the Renegade because the Blackhawk is really the Renegade's little brother. Both would be excellent comeback candidates. Very interesting that those 2 and the Jot Khalsa came from the same era. The Renegade & Blackhawk both would be superb with VG-10 and/or S30V.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned the C-01 Worker also from that era> WOW! what a knife that would be in ZDP-189!!!!

Love the Worker. Pretty much got replaced by the Delica though. Only thing the Worker offered over the Delica was a different tip.

I had the Renegade. It was nice, but after getting the Chinook II, I really couldn't like it much anymore. The tip was so thin and the action was so stiff. The G10 didn't feel as good as the Chinook's and it only had one liner.

I agree 100% on the Centofante II. I wish I had never traded my PE Cent II to you JD. LOL! I have a nice SE one now that I carry sometimes. It splits time with my G-10 SE Police.

That flat ground Police is another model that doesn't get any attention. One of the best designs in a folder ever. I used to like my old large Calypso PE but after getting a G-10 Police, I think it is stronger and a better knife.

If they would just make the G-10 Police again with the flat ground blade, I think the sales would be much better now that it has had time to sink in.

Renegade was not one of my favs. I didn't like all the upsweep on the tip and I prefer flat ground blades.

Kgriggs I couldn't agree with you more. The G-10 Police is truly one model of knife that the handle material makes an immense amount of difference.

The Jot Khalsa is probably one of their finer models ever. It has so much artistic flair to it. Don't let it die>> collect it while you can ;)
