Imagine my sense of delight as I opened the Spydie-box to reveal a new folding saw built on the Catcherman handle. The blade is thin (kind of like a fillet blade) but still featuers 2 rows of teeth!!

I think this will be right at home in my pack for unplanned-sawing chores.

The only thing holding me from buying the 'saw is the teeth for sharpening.

Which direction does it cut on, and how easy does it look to be for sharpening when it gets dull.

Well, I am no expert on saws, but the blade is the same as some "crosscut" saws I have with teeth that cut in both directions.

I would guess that sharpening will have to be accomplished with small files as on the larger saws...but I don't plan on using this as a primary camping implement.

when I buy one it'll be working with a small hatchet(5lbs) and a sturdy fixed. I see no need to haul a machete for small work.

I was wondering if you could use the 204 stones to get the saw sharpened?

come on guys, I have used the saw on my SAK heavily for 3 years and it still cuts like mad. I would assume the spydersaw is probably a 'better' steel, and has correspondingly better edge holding. I doubt highly that you'll be dulling this saw in in the forseeable future as long as you keep it to wood...

#3> my books aren't right here, so I'm guessing on the steel. I think it's a 8A or 6A in it... even so, it will dull over time.

Yes saws will cut a LONG time before needing to sharpen, and spyderco will probably be one of the best in the folding saw market(top so far is stanley, b/c it takes recip saw blades). I prefer to have the best proformance out of my tools, and I'm the guy who takes a benchstone to touch up a hatchet after a full day of use.

Glad these are out now! Saw them at SHOT and was told it'd be about 60-90 days away. They'll be great for spring boating (WW kayak) and clearing "strainers".

I took another look at the teeth on this saw, and I miss-spoke earlier. The teeth are definitely oriented to cut on the pull stroke more than on the push. I left it in my desk at work, but I THINK the blade steel was AUS-6.

Mike, you need to get some sheaths made up for these.I will for sure get one with one of your sheaths.
