Spydersaw?

I know that they have been discontinued, but I have been looking for a nice compact pocket saw. Does anyone on the forum have any experience with the Spyderco Spydersaw? I found a new one for sale. Thanks.

I don't have any experience with them, but handled them years ago and those teeth were sharp as hell on them. I know they could cut through any wood out there.

Even the smallest Silky is bigger, heavier, thicker than the Spydersaw. The Spydersaw is about the same size/weight as the Spyderco Endura. I'd say get it if you can get a good price. At the regular retail price, they are WAY to expensive for what they are.

I plan on getting a Silky saw, but I really wondered if anyone had actually used a Spydersaw. I guess not. That explains why they were discontinued, I guess. This would just be for hikes, when I might want to saw a small piece of wood for a walking stick or something. Thanks for all the info.

My Silky Saw sails through wood. Because of it's weight, though, I only carry it when I KNOW I'll be needing a saw (which is almost never.) If I MIGHT need a saw, I carry the $10 Fiskars slide-out saw at only three ounces. If I'm pretty sure I WON'T need a saw, I carry a SAK w/saw. For your needs, I suggest the Fiskars or the SAK.

The Spydersaw is an excellent saw. I have two and use them mostly on green wood, collecting material for whittling projects, etc. Bigger than the Endura by about an inch, it is based on the Catcherman. Light, flat, and easy to carry as any Spyderco knife; also stainless and low maintenance. For a saw to carry in the pocket, by far the best I have come on yet. But kind of small, the down side of light and easy to carry. Got mine a few years ago for around $33; now that it is discontinued prices have become outrageous (if ebay is any indication).

I like the Spydersaw more than the Silky Pocketboy (the smallest Silky as far as I know), but at todays prices the Pocketboy is probably a better value. I have a Silky Gomboy, which is a larger model, and like both brands.

Thanks, guy. I did not expect such a small saw to do big jobs. A small stainless steel blade that saws and carries in my pocket sounds like just what I'm looking for. Part of it, I admit, is the the novelty of a Spyderco that is really a saw.
