Hello guys,

I 've been looking 'round at some of Spyderco's models and 1 of them has really caught my eye.
Sonce I live in belgium.... every damn knife is sooo expensive :grumpy: ... but this perticular one is cheaper then in the States!! (retail I mean  )

It's the Centofante III,
Here's my question: should I buy it? and why? or why not?? Does anyone have experience with it?

Thanks in advance,
Take care,
Davy

All i know about it is what Ive seen in the pictures. What attracted me to it was the tip down carry. My wife picked it out of a 'lineup' of potential knives. Then I got a little bonus from work and was able to buy an Umfaan that I had been wanting.

I am really happy with mine...the thing blade cuts remarkably well, and it is big enough to do whatever you want it to. It's also thin in the pocket so it carries well. The clip can be put on tip up or down.

I like to carry mine tip up. It is nice and thin in the pocket, far thiner than a Griptillian. And it is SHARP! For the price I paid (about $40 USD) I am very pleased with it.

I got one a few months ago. I think it's GREAT!!!! One of my favs from Spyderco.

I don't have the Centofante III, I have the Centofante that is a compression lock model, and I bought it because the overall shape of it is GORGEOUS (especially the blade shape). Yes, it is a born slicer. The only reason I don't buy the III is that lately I avoid knives that cannot be taken apart by the user. If it weren't riveted, I'd have two.

nice thin profile, light weight, and you can't go wrong with tip down vg-10...

the 2mm spine gives one hell of an edge, get it sharp and it stays sharp

There is also one nested steel liner for ridgidity and stronger clip screw anchoring. Frank did a nice job.

Thanks for all the helpfull replies guys!

Tom, ("loki88")... great to see other Belgian people here! Guess you're also at weapons.be, right?

Sal, .... well, let's say I didn't expect an answer of the director of spyderco himself ! That gives me even more confidence in my purchase.. a man that spends cares enough to personally respond to a question like this deserves (a little ;) ) of my money

Take care, Davy

I'll add my two cents. The Centofante III is great bang for the buck knife. It's a really nice mid-size knife. It's big enough for lots of different uses and it's small enough to carry in many different circumstances. That super thin blade is almost like a pocket paring knife!

Regarding Sal, this is indeed the forum with the top of the crop, where real knifepeople speak with real knifemakers. Not only Sal is such a commited maker, most serieous Knifemanufacturers have a CEO represented inhere. Why? Because, although we don't make up for the majority of their clients, they get good advice from us, and we get input from them regarding there products. It's a win-win situation. Spyderco has my full trust as a commited firm which can't do magic, but they will surely try!!

Yes, how about a centofante VI with a new lock? (sans spyder, I was never a fan of billboard handles)

I had the compression model, one of the really early mades I found out later. Everything was great, but that was the first model with the compression model, and Mike@Spyderco let me know that cause they're the first ones, the lock was a bit iffy, so he couldn't release it back to me.
It's a great blade. Nice and thin, doesn't attract attention much.
