After using my new Lil Temperance for a few days, I decided to write up a review. Unfortunately, there wont be any pictures, partly because I am not a good photographer and partly because Im too impatient to wait for the pics to upload on my dial up connection.
First Impressions: When I first opened the package and wrapped my hand around the Lil Temp, I loved it. So, not getting used to it period was necessary: It was great from the start.
Handle: I find the handle to be absolutely perfect. It feels great in both regular and reverse grip, as well as with the knife sideways in the hand, with my thumb on the side of the handle. It fills the handle nicely, and I find the thickness if good, not to thin, not to bulky.
Blade: I have the trailing point model, and even thought I have never handled the leaf blade Lil Temp, I think I prefer the trailing point. It comes to a very pointy tip, which I like for cleaning my fingernails, one of my primary knife usages. The blade also has quite a bit of belly, which I like to cutting. The lack of a choil may be disconcerting to some, but I like the fact that the handle ends and the blade begins right away. In fact, the whole ricasso is covered by the handle slabs. I also like the full flat ground CPM 440V blade. I havent had a chance to test out edge retention, but the full flat ground cuts like no other.
Clip: I rather like the clip on the Lil Temp. True, it is very visible when in the pocket, but for me, sheeple friendliness is not a high priority. When gripping the handle, the clip actually aids the grip. The three holes press against the fleshy part of the hand before the fingers and make for very secure grip. This is in tip up; I havent tried tip down, because I dont like to carry my knives that way.
Lock: This is my first knife with Spydercos Compression Lock, and I really like it. Locks up very solid, with no blade play, and there is no chance of accidental unlocking.
This model has been discontinued by Spyderco, and is coming back with improvements. I honestly cant see how they will improve it, besides making it ambidextrous. When it is re-released, I will definitely be getting one!
