Anyone have one? I just bought one on a whim to see what the deal was with the phantom lock. I like this little knife alot... better than my D-Fly so far...it seems like a well built little knife but how strong is the phantom lock? Has it failed for anyone?

I've had one for several months. The ergonomics are great and the little knife fills the hand quite well. As to the lock, it has never failed on me. Mind you I use it as one of my office EDCs so it's not like I put it through punishing paces or anything but it seems to have what it takes to hold up well.

The newer ones are AUS^ and made in Japan. There appear to have been manufacturing problems with the 440C version since some of the blades had a good deal of play when locked up. I had to go through 4 meerkats to get my 440C knife. It was worth it since it a great little EDC; certainly sheeple friendly. I also have an AUS6 meerkat (i keep the 440C in the display case since it isn't manufactured anymore) and the lockup is much improved.

The Meerkat is a great little knife. Fits my hand well and cuts like a much larger blade. Great knife to loan to some one to make a cut. You know you'll get it back since they can't figure out how to close it.:D

I have both of the blade styles of the Meerkat and like this little knife a lot. I have another coming too. I gave one to the wife, plain edge regular blade, who uses it as her EDC. I have the reverse 'S' blade. The one on its way will be a gift.

These are nice light duty knives that have worked well.

The Meerkat is my EDC. I wear jeans and keep it in watchpocket, very handy. Wire clip is perfect for this carry and low profile. The lock is solid and is held in place solid as you grip the knife in the open position. The ergonomics are super and the blade just right for light/medium duty. I would not hand over knife and try to spellbind friends with the sliplock as I had the bad experience of some brute guard simply force the blade closed and hand it back.
