Hello all. Just picked up a Millie with carbon fiber scales. I am lead to believe it's from a Sprint run (which I take is Spydie talk for a limited edition run). I've never had a spydie b4 and the ones I'd handled I didn't care for but this Millie really feels good in the hand. Nice and light, sturdy.

My only problem is the tip down carry. Every EDC knife I've ever owned has been tip up and I have gotten to like it.

Any recommendations for someone who will do a good job on converting it to tip-up?

Which steel? S90V or BG42? Also, give tip down a try. I didn't like it at first, but I think that's the only way to carry a Military. Carrying it tip up would make for a long throw to the Sypder Hole whereas tip down puts the hole in position to open very nicely.

They were also made in S30V as well

I agree. Switching to tip up would necessitate milling the scales, inserting a steel plate, tapping the plate and creating a new position all together. Once that material is gone, it cannot be put back. Try it as is, and give a week or 2.

+1, same here. when i use the clip, i carry tip down now.

I normally carry tip-up as well, but for some reason, I prefer flippers and longer handled folders tip-down (for the reasons already provided.) If you can't get used to it, maybe try back pocket carry with your Millie. Then pick up a Para 2 for your front pocket... :D

I favor tip-up also, but the Military is such a fantastic knife that I didn't care.

Go get a drill bit and tap .. put it in your drill press (if you don't have a drill press.. hit Harbor Freight for one of the $50 ones.. they are will worth it in the long run for projects). I used an extra Benchmade pocket clip I had laying around or you can pick one up off the knife making sites for like $3. It's real easy.. use a little loctite and all set. I just went into the G10 (no metal backer) and with the loctite it's been fine for everyday use for over 2 years. Worst case I'll just epoxy the screws in, not like I'm selling it or going to switch it back.

Thanks everyone for the comments. It is the S30V steel. I was concerned about trying the conversion myself due to the lack of metal liners to tap into.

I am going to be trying it tip down from now till Thanksgiving so we'll see. My concern is along the same idea of carrying your defensive handgun in the same position all the time. What you always do in practice you'll always do in combat, not that I'm going to war or anything but I do get to see the seedier side of some of the major cities (I'm a truck driver). Over the last 30 odd years I've gotten pretty good at getting a tip up blade out and open fast and I worry a little about the change.

For now I've decided that if I'm in a spot where I even think I might need it I'll just have it in my hand already while I practice with it a bit.

Thanks again for the input.
