Today I watched a security briefing video at a site that processes "specialty metallic products" for the NNSA. At one point they were talking about procedures for passing through metal detectors at gates. Empty your pockets, etc. The guy demonstrating emptied his pockets and placed a Paramilitary in the bin. I was amazed. So at least I know I can carry my Para into the plant - they even showed it in the security briefing video.

i informed the head of security in our building that i carry a delica. that, after i went through two guards doing a body search and an airport metal detector without anyone finding out. my delica is clipped to my waistband, behind my belt. the officer noted down my name, office and described my "weapon," after which i received a memo telling me that all guards in the building know i carry, and that anything going awry with reasonable suspicion of my involvement will be reported to the police. fine with me. so my darling deli goes with me to the office. that's what matters.

occasionally i find a reason to be thankful for being a mason/concrete finisher.... i dont have to deal with that kinda crap.
hell, i even pack a S&W .38 snubbie in my lunch box everyday LOL

you'll have more reason to be glad: my company is about to close down. i'll be transferring soon, make different living arrangments, etc.

and while we're discussing basically EDC i'd like to react to several EDC pictures in this forum: why do so many people carry flashlights? i live in a third world country but there's usually enough lighting at night anywhere i go.

i have carried surefire flashlights for years and my reasoning is pretty simple: better to have one and not need it than need one and not have it.
same reason why i carry a pistol everyday

i expected that. we do have occasional power outages and it sucks if all you have is a zippo and a disposable.

plus, flashlights are just another cool tool that continues to get better thru time.
i look at my first Surefires, and they are like dinosaurs compared to the modern LED lights i now have. my LED Defender i carry everyday doubles as a striking weapon.
i know i wouldnt want smacked in the face with it.

Why do you carry a flashlight? It's just another level of preparedness. Get on board and you'll be glad you did.

Once you start carrying a light, you will start using it. There are many times in both daylight and night time that a flashlight comes in handy.

If there is a 50% chance of rain, people grab a raincoat or umbrella, but people find it strange to carry a flashlight when it will get dark 100% of the time. I carry a knife without thinking, "will I need to cut something today". Guns, flashlights and knives go well together.

[BTW I'm also a member of a flashlight forum also]

Before you risk the Para, check your site's prohibited items list, a 3" blade limit is common.

This site is clearly posted with a 4" blade length limit. I stopped and carefully read the posting to make sure I was reading it right, since federal facilities normally have a less generous policy. I even mentioned it to the person "administering" the briefing, and also to someone I know who works security at the site (and gets to use all kinds of very interesting weapons) and they confirmed the blade length limit.

Sounds very reasonable. I work a site with a 3" max unless it is a food prep/serving utensil, my last location had an 8" 'cake cutter' knife, go figure.
