Just took delivery of a new Spyderco Calypso Jr (SE - VG10). Very sharp. In fact, been bitten already
However,
The blade tang does not line up flush with the locking bar.
By that I mean that there is a significant "step" (0.8mm - 1mm; estimate) up to the locking bar when the blade is locked open. The blade still locks in position mind you, so it does not look like there are any issues there.
Now, the enclosed leaflet says:
"Each Spyderco product is guarenteed to be free from manufacturing and material defects for a period of one year from the date of your purchase."
Now, my questions are:
(1) What do you all regard as a manufacturing defect?
(2) Do you think that this kind of 'finish' (for want of a better word) should be considered a manufacturing defect?, or as Microsoft sometimes states when it's software goes south: "done by design".
This is NOT a Spyderco "bashing" per se, as oppossed to what you thing constitutes a manufacturing defect. At the same time, I have to say that I was very disappointed by this "quality issue", given the "step" just described as well as the unaligned (slanted) "Japan" stamp on the blade. Especially when I compare it to a previous PE - VG10 Calypso Jr that I bought 2 years ago, which, to a large extent, influenced my decision to purchase this one. Of course, I may be being far too anal here for my own good
Joe
PS. The Calypso Jr is by and far my favourite Spydie EDC knife. Great ergonomics! Great job by Sal and the rest of the Spyderco company.
